Buickâs first OHV V-8, affectionately dubbed the Nailhead, first appeared in 1953.
In 1957, an increase in both its bore and stroke brought the engineâs displacement to 364 cubic inches. It was fed by carburetors supplied by either Carter or Stromberg and was rated by the factory at 300 horsepower. The standard transmission for the Super
line in 1957 was the two-speed version of the Dynaflow automatic. The engine in this Super Riviera is original to the car. The started button has been relocated to the dash. It starts the engine immediately after a pump of the accelerator and its idle slows after about a minute with no smoke.
The Dynaflow transmission, which was rebuilt as part of the restoration project, is said to engage and change gears immediately and smoothly, with no objectionable noises. A very slight spotting of motor oil is noted at the breather tube, but the car remains dry underneath. The engine bay presents as stock and impressively clean, including the insulation on the underside of the hood. The Super Rivieraâs repaint, in a correct 1957 shade, was completed in February 2019.

in. crate motor thatâs rated at 430 horsepower. The engine was new in 2019 and has approximately 2,000 miles on it, per the seller. Engine components include an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley Stealth EFI, aluminum cylinder heads, Hedman exhaust headers, twin electric fans, and a serpentine belt system. The
Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 three-speed automatic transmission was also new at the time of the engine build. Cold starts are easy thanks to the electronic fuel injection and an electric fuel pump, who also reports a smooth idle, no smoke, and no drips. The gas tank and fuel lines are new.
The Ember Red paint is said to be original, and the seller reports a few small chips, but he states it looks âvery niceâ overall. He points out a small dent in the roof over the passengerâs door, a small dent by the trunk lock, and some fading on the driverâs-side front fender. the car has been repainted since itâs so nice. â All the glass is original with a small rock chip in the windshield. The
floors and trunk are solid, but there is a little surface rust on the frame. The headlights and taillights have been upgraded to LED units. The weatherstripping was replaced about two years ago, because the âoriginals were dry and brittle.
â The carpet is also original and does have some wear spots on the edges, but no holes. Full floormats protect the carpet. The headliner is original, with no tears or fading. The gauges have been replaced with modern ones from Dakota Digital. The new air-conditioning system with R134a refrigerant is from Vintage Air. The original radio doesnât work. The windows and locks are all manually operated. The steering wheel shows no cracks or issues.

This Mach 1 was born with a 351 Cleveland V-8 engine and thatâs what still resides under the hood. it's the original engine, but
it has been recently rebuilt and now has less than 500 miles on it. Performance enhancements include an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Doug Thorley ceramic-coated headers and a custom exhaust system.
Thereâs also a Summit Racing high-energy ignition distributor and a new radiator. There are no reported leaks or cooling issues with the engine and it reportedly starts, idles and runs very well. The engine compartment features fabricated shock tower braces. Backing the 351C is a recently installed rebuilt Top Loader four-speed manual gearbox, which sends the engineâs torque to a 9-inch rear axle. The ID sticker indicates the car came with 3.00-geared Traction Lok (limited-slip) rear axle. It is not known whether the original gear set is in place. Being a Senior-level car, the 400 got the larger of the two V-8s that Packard debuted in 1955, a 352-cubic-inch mill with 8.5:1 compression, a Rochester 4GC four-barrel carburetor and output rated at 245 horsepower.
Among the extensive mechanical service the engine received from 2008 through 2018 include a full tune-up, conversion of the electricals
to negative ground, a generator rebuild and voltage regulator replacement, freeze plug replacement, valve guide replacement, radiator re-coring, battery replacement and a new exhaust system with glass-pack mufflers. The Rochester carburetor was also replaced with a similar component.

This KB-3 is still powered by what is believed to be its original engine, dubbed the Green Diamond after the trio of diamonds that served as International Harvesterâs corporate logo in 1949.

has received a full rebuild, and with an eye toward authenticity, retains its original six-volt positive ground electricals, although the distributor has been modified with an electronic module and a new wiring harness from Narragansett Reproductions of Rhode Island.
A new, heavy-duty radiator fabricated from stainless steel has been fitted, but the original factory radiator is included with the sale. of this KB-3 was capped by a full repaint in correct International Harvester number 50 red that was completed in 2016. The PPG basecoat/clearcoat finish was color-sanded and buffed, and is said to still be in excellent condition, with what are described as being only very minor blemishes.

All of the truckâs chrome and stainless-steel trim was refinished and polished, and still presents very strongly. All the glass in the cab is new.
