This Mercury was owned by a Ninety year old Gentleman who had owned it for over forty years.
It is almost totally original except where replacement parts or reconditioned parts were added as it became necessary. Tires are old and while they look great and hold air, they might border on a liability on a long road trip. I'll post some pictures but can provide more if needed or when I get more time to upgrade this posting.

Only GMâs biggest automobile engine would suffice for this enormous front-drive car in 1976.
The 500-cu. in. behemoth of a V-8 utilized hydraulic valve lifters, had a compression ratio of 8.5:1, and produced 190 horsepower. The engine in this Eldorado is believed to be original to the car and receives its fuel via a Rochester four-barrel carburetor.
The engine start fine, even when cold, without smoke. The front-drive Turbo Hydra-Matic 425 three-speed automatic transaxle is said to change gears well. No drips or other leaks are reported from the powertrain. The engine bay presents as stock, with the level of soiling and surface corrosion that one would expect from an unrestored car of this vintage.

A âNailheadâ 264-cu.
in. Buick V-8 resides between the three portholes (âVentiports, â in official Buick speak) fenders. Buick named the engine the Fireball V-8 and rated it at 150 horsepower with 240 lb-ft of torque. Documents indicate that this is the original engine. It. run very smoothly and âsounds like a classic Buick. â the
Dynaflow two-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and doesnât emit any clunks or thumps. Codes on the factory trim tag identify the original (and current) color combination as Malibu Blue on the body with Carlsbad Black on the roof. the car has been stored inside when not in use.

The engine is a non-original 351-cu.
in. Cleveland V-8, which reportedly was enhanced with a number of performance and dress-up items years ago, including an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, finned valve covers and braided steel hoses. Recent maintenance and tune-up service includes a new Quick Fuel four-barrel carburetor, electric fuel pump,
water pump, Davis Unified Ignition performance distributor, valve cover gaskets, belts and hoses. the engine âpurrs, â starting easily â and without smoke â with the assistance of the electric fuel pump. It is matched with a reportedly smooth-shifting three-speed automatic transmission and no leaks are reported from either powertrain component.
the exterior was painted Burgundy Metallic approximately 25 years ago, which included disassembling the body for the work and sanding the body panels between coats. The finish appears to remain in good condition!

The engine in the Century lineup for 1939 was Buickâs OHV straight-eight, displacing 320.2 cubic inches.
With five main bearings and mechanical valve lifters, the engine received its fuel via a Stromberg AAV26 carburetor. The engine in this Century was sourced from a 1948 Buick Roadmaster, whose engine specifications are the same as the 1939
Centuryâs, although output is a slightly higher 144 horsepower. the rebuild saw the engine receive new pistons, rocker arms, rocker shafts, pushrods, a new exhaust system, replacement wiring harness and a rebuilt fuel pump. the carburetor was rebuilt, new bearings and piston rings were fitted and the radiator re-cored.
The generator and starter motor were likewise rebuilt. The manual transmission and clutch plate were also rebuilt. The rear end was reportedly rebuilt with new ring and pinion gears. No issues are reported with gear changing, and no leaks are observed from the powertrain. The engine can be started without a key by turning a chrome handle on the steering column and stepping on the starter switch. The engine bay appears stock and clean, with what appears to be recently installed ignition wires.
