Your Specific Responsibilities: This is a professional laboratory position responsible for testing and monitoring for Amino Acidemias, Fatty Oxidation Disorders, Organic Acidemias, Hemoglobinopathies and other Endocrine, Genetic and Metabolic Disorders.
Prepare tests on all newborn screening filter paper blood specimens to detect infants at risk for Amino Acidemias, Fatty Oxidation Disorders, Organic Acidemias, Sickle Cell, Congenital Hypothyroidism, Galactosemia, Biotinidase Deficiency, Cystic Fibrosis, CAH and other
Endocrine, Genetic and Metabolic Disorders. Initially check and approve test results electronically transmitted to mainframe computer database. Assure that all positives and borderline results have correct data concerning date of collection, birth weight, type of feeding and transfusion.
Perform follow-up testing to confirm results on those infants at risk for the Disorders tested in the Newborn Screening Laboratory. Delineate blood spots for hand punch, machine punch and those that are unsatisfactory
