The Sr. Maintenance Engineer applies electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and related theory to diagnose, test and solve advanced technical problems for onboard equipment. The Sr. Maintenance Engineer will take direction from the Sr. Mgr. Responsible for developing and/or improving maintenance procedures and work practices to increase equipment reliability and to modify the maintenance plans in the asset management system Support authorizing component upgrades, updates and replacements, including qualifying vendors and products with engineering documentation and drawings reviews as necessary. Proficiency with computer programs used to troubleshoot, analyze, track, trend and record failures of microprocessor based systems. Thorough knowledge of environmental regulations, signal rules, electric traction, NORAC and equivalent rules related to train operations and physical features of the right of way Knowledge of accepted industry quality standards and the ISO quality procedure. Excellent written, oral and public speaking communication skills. Perform minor repairs of plumbing facilities such as replacing faucets, hose connections, fish flumes and pipes, drains, heat traces, pipe, and miscellaneous fixtures.

Assist journeyman-level employees to install, construct, repair or modify items and structures. Paint equipment, gates, road surfaces, curbs, fish tanks, buildings, and furniture items using standard brushing or spraying techniques under the direction of a journeyman-level employee. Under the guidance and supervision of journeyman-level employees,

performs a variety of welding processes to carry out standard welding operations, not requiring critical stress or testing of weld. Perform miscellaneous duties such as preparing purchase card requests, maintaining roads, clearing debris from channels, cutting trees and limbs, opening and closing gates, cleaning building and restrooms, pressure washing and sediment removal.

Is frequently required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing. Work is often dirty and greasy. May work on ladders and scaffolding. Will work in the close proximity of deep and fast-moving water where drowning is possible if proper personal safety harness and floatation devices are not utilized or worn properly.
