Position Summary: The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Department of Pediatrics invites applications for a full-time, fixed term Clinical Instructor. The Clinical Instructor roles will include direct clinical care in the following capacities: functioning as a core member of a multidisciplinary team providing behavioral health to children and adolescents within the North Carolina Bladen County school setting.
The care for children and adolescents will be conducted with both embed mental health clinicians in the schools and utilize virtual technology to incorporate the expertise of leading specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry, shop, and other pediatric specialties from UNC-Chapel Hill and partners to provide care. The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team, including other Clinical Instructors, a community health worker, a psychologist, and a child and adolescent psychiatrist.
The faculty member will provide direct patient care, as well as participate in multidisciplinary meetings and support with some aspects of clinical care management. Principal duties will include: Screen and backss patients for common behavioral health and substance abuse disorders; Provide patient education about mental health disorders and available treatment options specific to this population; Monitor patients for changes in clinical symptoms using evidence-based tools and treatment side effects or complications; Support psychotropic medication management prescribed by child psychiatrist, focusing on treatment adherence, side effects and other complications, and effectiveness of treatment; Provide clinical interventions using evidence-based techniques (e.
g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Problem Solving Therapy (PST), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)) as clinically indicated; Provide or facilitate referrals to evidence-based psychosocial treatments as clinically indicated; Participate in regularly scheduled (usually weekly) caseload consultation with the psychiatrist and psychologist; Support and closely coordinate mental health care with the other members of the team, the patients’ family, the patient’s primary care provider (PCP) when necessary and, when appropriate, other mental health or specialty providers; Other duties as assigned by management.
Clinical providers will provide diagnoses and therapy for older children and adolescents with high prevalence conditions such as anxiety and depression. Specifically, these therapists will be expert at cognitive behavioral therapy and related interventions including trauma-informed approaches, dialectical behavioral therapy and family systems approaches. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Applicants for the Clinical Instructor position must have a Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field.
The applicant must be fully licensed as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), or licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina by the beginning date of the appointment. The Director serves as a senior department leadership team member and is responsible for devising, executing and evaluating departmental goals, policies and programming with the goal of enhancing on-campus living housing offerings that meet current and future needs of our residential student. This position reports directly to the Executive Director for On-Campus Living and
is a live-off position. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Department Leadership Develop and implement operational strategic priorities that are aligned with the academic mission of the University, Student Affairs and On-Campus Living.
Cultivate and promote short and long“range planning in collaboration with the Executive Director for On-Campus Living. Collaborate with the Executive Director to backss the departmental structure, including staffing recruitment and retention. Collaborate and partner within On-Campus Living and with key university partnerships. Provide departmental leadership for high-level customer service and complex issues through problem identification and resolution,
policy interpretation and conflict mediation. As needed, coordinate departmental response to residential students emergencies and crisis, student behavior issues, student health and wellness and safety concerns.
Staff Supervision Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate performance of the Associate Director of Residential Life and indirect supervision of three Assistant Directors, 6 Residence Directors and 90 student employees, and other staff as determined. Ensure and encourage ongoing professional development and involvement in relevant associations and organizations for the professional staff. Program Development, backssment & Student Engagement Create and implement a comprehensive residential curriculum to enhance the student experience and student learning outcomes that contribute to retention and academic success.
Develop and collaborate with campus partners to ensure the integration of residential curriculum educational priorities and learning goals. Chair the departments residential curriculum committee and develop training modules for professional and student staff learning relating to curriculum design and implementation. Develop and implement annual departmental backssment initiatives to enhance and improve programs and services offered within On-Campus Living.
Prepare backssment reports and summarize findings including data collection, analysis, outcomes, and results. Promote and support student residential hall leadership to bolster student engagement and thriving. Evaluate current housing offerings and propose the development of special interest housing and future living-learning experiences. Foster a commitment to environmental sustainability within the department. Student Care & Conduct Provide support to students in crisis in collaboration with Student Outreach and Support. Partner with the Director of Student Conduct and their designees in the development, interpretation, and articulation of the Student Conduct Code.
Collect data and identify trends specific to student support and behavioral management and recommend strategies for increasing student support and accountability. University Outreach and Partnerships Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with colleagues across student affairs and within the university. Serve on Orientation Advisory Team and First-Year Experience Common Read Program committee. Serve on additional task forces, committees, search committees, or working groups as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities Enforce all university and housing regulations and reinforce acceptable behavioral standards in residence halls and university apartments. Revise, edit and direct the implementation of all residence hall policies and procedures and shared consistently across all platforms. Collaborate with the Residential Facilities team to support administrative needs (i. e. Health and Safety Checks, Room Inventory Process, upkeep and report any vandalism or residence hall damages) Develop, administer and design reports for annual backssment tools used to collect data on the residential experience of students living on-campus.
Emergency Management and Response Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and assist in decision-making and response to any emergency incidents in the residence halls. Serve as a member of the Secondary on-call after-hours team for the Homewood campus. Proven track record of establishing strategic relationships to strengthen program and service delivery. A high degree of enthusiasm, energy and creativity for residential life and student affairs. Demonstrated success in a complex, multi-layered and data-driven organization. Understanding of information technology as applied to a residential system. Work Schedule This position will be required to be on-call on a rotating schedule to assist with any university emergencies that affect the student population.
Weekend and evening hours are required. Minimum Qualifications Masters Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field required. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in housing/residential life or related student affairs office in higher education.
