Position Title: Senior Associate Director of Community Standards Position Number: 898902 School/Division: The Office of Dean of Students Full-Time or Part-Time: Full-Time Description: Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Senior Associate Director of Community Standards provides vision, leadership, and daily administration for Hofstra University’s community standards system that serves all undergraduate

and graduate students at Hofstra. The Senior Associate Director of Community Standards provides administrative and policy oversight for the University’s community standards process and its hearing boards.

This position will also provide leadership development for the department’s educational support services and training initiatives, supervision of the Assistant Director of Community Standards, and maintenance, tracking, and retrieval of all student community standards records. The Senior Associate Director of Community Standards is a member of the Dean of Students’ leadership team and assists with various area projects, committees, and initiatives within the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success (SEES) and the University.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversees and directs all aspects of student community standards. Develops and updates all community standards policies and procedures and consults with other University constituencies to ensure compliance with governmental laws/regulations. Directly manages all high-level community standards cases, including incidents involving Title IX, Prohibited Bias, Discriminatory Harassment matters, and all associated sanctioning. Coordinates information about the student community standards process about student organization and group activities, including statistical reports and annual revisions to the Code of Student Conduct/Community Standards with the Office of General Counsel.

Develops a student community standards program that prescribes and practices ethical behavior among all community members and embrace the University’s P. R. I. D. E values. Develops departmental strategic planning initiatives and backsses all departmental efforts to determine effectiveness. Supervises the Assistant Director and oversees all aspects of the student and administrative boards.

Coordinates with Residence Life regarding policies and processes and directs/advises all Resident Directors in their roles as student conduct administrators. Develops and manages systems to maintain and track community standards records. Oversees the development, maintenance, and integrity of the community standards database system and leads all community standards tracking and backssment efforts. Reviews Assistant Director’s response to authorized requests for documentation regarding community standards histories. Works with the Dean of Students/Associate Dean to manage and approve Dean’s Certifications, transfer/employment applications and other documents requiring community standards record verification.

Oversees all student conduct administrators and along with the Assistant Director, and serves as a resource regarding database entry, paperwork requirements, scheduling issues, policy changes, and procedural updates. Works in collaboration with all departments in SEES, colleagues across the University, and members of the local community to establish a student-centered community standards program which supports the mission of Hofstra University. Consults and coordinates with University constituencies to develop and maintain additional student support services within the community standards process.

Creates and implements on-going training to all those with supporting roles within the community standards system: Administrative Hearing Board members, Title IX Administrative Hearing Board members, Student Community Standards Board members, Community Standards Hearing Officers, Resident Assistants, etc. Provides conduct related presentations and workshops to other University departments. Designs and oversees the implementation of all departmental educational initiatives.

Recruits, trains, and schedules administrative volunteers to facilitate educational workshops and seminars. Manages/oversees the publication of all information related to community standards and the conduct process. Reviews, recommends, and updates the Code of Community Standards for students and organizations as well as other related policies. Designs and maintains the accuracy of the community standards website. Maintains a working knowledge of current government regulations and student affairs best practices as they pertain to student community standards and higher education (i. e. Title IX, Clery Act, and FERPA).

Serves as non-voting member of Honor Board. Serves on SEES and University committees and performs other similar duties as assigned. Qualifications: An earned graduate degree in an applicable field of study (e. g. law, higher education, student affairs administration) required. At least five years of progressively responsible full-time administrative experience in a college setting or equivalent experience, including experience in student conduct or community standards administration. Technological expertise is critical to use data to measure and backss outcomes related to programs and services.

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including budget management preferred. Working knowledge of student development theories. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage conflicts and crisis situations. A collegial interpersonal style with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and with numerous University stakeholder groups. Policy, Compliance, and Audit Participate in the development and implementation of effective and reasonable policies and practices to secure protected and sensitive data and ensure information security and compliance with relevant legislation and legal interpretation. Lead efforts to internally backss, evaluate and make recommendations to management regarding the adequacy of the security controls for the University’s information and technology systems.

Work with Internal Audit, outside auditors, and other consultants as appropriate to complete security backssments and audits. Coordinate and track all information technology and security related audits including scope of audits, units involved, timelines, participants, and outcomes. Outreach, Education, and Training Work closely with other ITS leaders, technical experts, and academic and administrative leaders across campus on a wide variety of security issues that require an in-depth understanding of the IT environment in their units, as well as the research landscape and regulations that pertain to their unit’s research areas.

Create education and awareness programs and advise academic and administrative units at on security issues, best practices, and vulnerabilities. Work with campus groups to build awareness and a sense of common purpose around information security. Pursue student security initiatives to address unique needs in protecting identity theft, mobile social media security, and online reputation program. Risk Management and Incident Response Keep abreast of security incidents and act as primary control point during significant information security incidents. Convene a Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) as needed, or requested, in addressing and investigating security incidences that arise.

Develop, implement, and administer technical security standards, as well as a suite of security services and tools to address and mitigate security risk. Provide leadership, direction, and guidance in backssing and evaluating information security risks and monitor compliance with security standards and appropriate policies. Examine impacts of new technologies on the University’s overall information security. Establish processes to review implementation of new technologies to ensure security compliance.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum five years of full-time professional experience in information technology, including evidence of successful and progressively responsible roles in information security or related area (including growth in levels of responsibility, complexity of work, numbers, and sophistication of employees) related to the essential responsibilities listed. Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English with the sophistication necessary to effectively communicate technical details to both technical and non-technical individuals. Demonstrated willingness and ability to carry out the essential responsibilities listed with humility, grace, and optimism.
