Physical Requirements and Working Environment: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: Trims trees around energized electric distribution lines to provide clearance as guided by Tree Crew Leader. Trims or removes hazard trees on public property as guided by Tree Crew Leader to reduce liability to the city.
Directs traffic around work sites to ensure the safety of the crew members. Operates equipment to complete city projects as assigned, such as hanging outdoor holiday decorations, facilitating building repairs, preparing for social events, etc. Receives and responds to public inquiries, complaints, and requests for assistance. Assists utility line
crews and other utility/public safety crews when requested. Maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance and equipment repair records. Applies tree growth chemicals to slow the growth of trees under and adjacent to overhead utility lines.
Loads and transports debris from work sites to appropriate disposal facilities. Cleans and maintains assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools. Works extended overtime during major power outages, severe weather, etc. Performs all work in compliance with plans, specifications, codes, safety regulations, and department policies and procedures. Attends safety meetings, training, workshops, etc. as required or requested to enhance job knowledge and skill.
Meets with customers and property owners to discuss required or requested tree trimming and related work.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including work orders, tree investigation forms, requests from City Council, and service work from other departments. Generates and/or prepares a variety of documents including completed work orders, completed tree investigation forms, and completed testing forms (ACRT certification). Refers to the city tree ordinance, personnel and safety policies, equipment maintenance guides, and chemical instructions. Interacts and communicates with various internal and external groups and individuals. Operates a variety of heavy machinery such as bucket trucks, pickup trucks, dump trucks, backhoe, tractor, chain saws, stump grinders, etc.
Performs other duties as directed. Qualifications and Requirements: High School Diploma supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a job-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) license. ACRT certification or ability to obtain and maintain within one year of hire. • Changes and repairs tires on vehicles, heavy equipment and lawn mowers. • Tests vehicles after completing work. • Orders and picks up parts if necessary. Assists with inventory of parts. • Provides assistance to disabled vehicles and any other equipment as necessary. • Performs
welding and fabrication duties as needed. • Performs body work as needed. Paints equipment as needed. • Repairs emergency police vehicles and installs equipment as needed.
• Maintains parts used for job. • Pulls hydraulic cylinders apart when leaking, reseals cylinders and put back on trucks. • Operates computer for reading codes on cars and large trucks. • Operates tire balancer to balance tires on cars and trucks. • Uses test light for testing power on wires. • Loads tester for battery and voltage meter to test battery voltage. • Uses welding machine to weld broken metal. • Operates a variety of machinery and equipment such as police vehicles, fire trucks, garbage trucks, heavy equipment
tractors and vacuums. • Utilizes a variety of tools and/or sets of tools to include wrenches, canners, welders, torches and tire machines.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a High School Diploma supplemented by a minimum of one to two years of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
