This job is a bench-based scientist role where you will conduct experiments, interact closely with other scientists and investigators, and participate in collaborative research toward understanding the basis of disease.

Responsibilities : The candidate will use their molecular biology, biochemistry, and structural biology skills, design constructs, and purify proteins for structural and biophysical studies. Work with several labs and determine structures using x-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM technologies.

Able to troubleshoot cloning, protein expression and purification problems. Interpret, analyze, and communicate structural biology results with collaborators.

Prioritize work and complete assignments in a timely fashion. Train and mentor research associates, students, and/or postdoctoral associates who seek to leverage the Protein Technologies Center's capabilities at St. Jude. Preferred Experience and Skills : Experience in sample preparation for both negative-stain and single particle EM, data collection, data processing and model building. Demonstrated ability to purify challenging macromolecules and/or complexes (e. g. membrane proteins, viral glycoproteins, antibody-antigen complexes

etc. ). Minimum Education and/or Training: Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required.

Ph D in molecular biology, biochemistry, protein engineering, or any related discipline preferred. Minimum Experience: Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Bachelor's degree. Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree. Three (3) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Ph D. The Analytical Research and Development, Cell Based Sciences Department in West Point, PA is seeking a motivated Principal Scientist with technical expertise in developing reagents for large molecule potency assays. Specifically, the ideal candidate will be a recognized expert in developing antibodies that enable mechanism-of-action reflective potency assays. This is a laboratory-based scientific role tasked with solving complex analytical

problems at the interface of biology, chemistry, and lab informatics disciplines to enable development of Vaccine candidates. The successful candidate is expected to provide scientific leadership, expertise, and creativity to solve complex project problems across the large molecule portfolio.

They will be accountable to inspire and sponsor scientific evaluation and implementation of innovative and disruptive technologies and approaches. Responsibilities include representing the group on product development teams, developing strategy for reagent development and characterization, oversight of method development and testing, and scientific mentoring. The candidate will be expected to effectively

communicate with stakeholders in partner organization and to management and governance teams.

Education Requirements: Ph. D. in analytical chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, virology, or related field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; OR M. S. with a minimum of 10 years of experience; OR bachelor's with a minimum of 14 years of experience in the medical Industry. Required Skills and Experience: In-depth knowledge and understanding of immunoassay development including antigen and antibody selection, antibody matched pair screening and optimization, binding kinetics, and multiplexing. Deep technical knowledge of antibody generation, characterization, and application within large molecule analytical and process development.

Expertise in cell biology and immunology, with application to solve complex scientific challenges related to designing and developing Gx P potency assays to support a variety of vaccine modalities. Demonstrated ability to lead complex experimental design and detailed data analysis concepts related to analytical method development. Deep working knowledge of regulatory guidance and quality standards, with experience authoring and reviewing regulatory submissions and responses (biologics license application submission) and interacting with Health Authorities.

Ability to excel in a team-based environment, partnering and influencing in a professional and positive manner. Strong external scientific reputation including publications, regulatory guidance documents, presentations at scientific meetings, membership on (or leading) cross-company working groups or consortia. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated scientific ability through publications and presentations in scientific conferences.
