1937 Stone Shipyard 53' Custom Seller Financing Considered For Qualified Buyers!
This legendary 1937 Philip Rhodes designed 53 foot custom cutter rigged sailing yacht was commissioned at the Stone Boatyard in Oakland, California. SENTA's original owner, K. K. Bechtel, Esq. commissioned Stone to build her after seeing 1935 sistership Kirawan
win the 1936 Newport to Bermuda race in her class. Warned that the build would be costly, Mr. Bechtel gave Stone full reign to build, and even improve if possible. SENTA has been around the world several times with a rich sailing and racing history. Her original build plans are in hand and her bulkheads and interior are kept to the original design.
Gannon & Benjamin of Martha's Vineyard, a highly regarded yard for wooden sailing yachts, completed a major rebuild in 1992. And in 2011, she was repowered with a 55hp Volvo Penta diesel engine along with new fuel tank and fuel lines. SENTA has been maintained/serviced as needed by Snediker Yacht Restoration, Pawcatuck CT, specializing in classic
wooden boats. The most recent repair was to replace the stem and service all seabirds. Designer Designed in 1936 by Philip Rhodes, an MIT graduate and Chief of Design at Cox and Stevens, a large naval architecture firm in New York City.
Kirawan was the first ocean racer to bring Rhodes considerable international fame, along with the subsequent design of Senta. You may find reference to her sistership build and design in the book " Philip L. Rhodes and his yacht designs" by Richard Henderson. Designed with the Bermuda race in mind, she was also meant to be suitable for weekend cruising. Vessel Walkthrough and Details INTERIORForepeak forward with anchor rode forward followed
