The “A” in the VIN indicates this Mustang was originally equipped with a four-barrel 289-cu.

in. V-8 engine rated at 225 horsepower, which was one of the two engines available with the GT package. idles and runs well, with no smoke on cold starts. It is fitted with an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor,

along with aftermarket finned valve covers and air cleaner. There is some reported minor seepage at the rear main seal, but the four-speed manual transmission is dry and is said to shift smoothly. There is also some weeping at the rear axle, which, according to the “A” in the axle code position of the body tag has a 3.00:1 ratio.

The engine compartment shows some wear in the restoration, including some paint flaking off the radiator. The radiator itself has been fitted with an aftermarket overflow tank.

The Regal Red paint is stated to date to the 2010 restoration.

the paint has minimal orange peel and remains in very good condition, with no body or paint damage noted, save for a few light scratches that have been touched up. The emblems are stated to have been new replacements. there are no signs of rust or rust repair present on this vehicle,

and all body panels appear “solid. ” All weather seals are described as being in good condition and no water leaks are evident. All lighting is stated to work properly. The bumpers are said to have been replated, while the rest of the chrome and brightwork remains bright and well polished.

Small dings are visible on the fender top trim. The heat-pressed black vinyl pleated seats are stated to be original and in very good condition, with light scratches visible and with full movement on their tracks without issue. The carpeting appears to be in fair condition, with wear visible at the heel area below the accelerator pedal. A replacement perforated vinyl headliner was recently installed and is described as “correct. ” There is headliner material puckering around the C-pillar.

The range of Mustang engine options was available in the California Special and per the “C” in the Vehicle Identification Number, this one was equipped with a 289-cubic-inch, four-barrel-fed V-8 rated at 195 horsepower.

and no known leaks from the engine. It is paired with a C4 three-speed automatic transmission that reportedly shifts smoothly. The rest of the drivetrain includes the original-type 8-inch rear axle, with a 2.79 final-drive ratio. The interior has been completely restored in its original black vinyl trim.

Everything was reportedly restored or replaced such as the headliner, overhead and center consoles (both restored by Just Dashes), sun visors, rear view mirror, dash pad, gauges, custom wood steering wheel, AM/FM radio, door panels, bucket seats, seat belts, and carpeting. The original steering wheel is included with the sale. Everything in the revamped interior is in working order with the exception of the clock. The car is also equipped with a correct-style set of rubber floor mats and the trunk was also restored.

More recently, service and enhancements include an electronic ignition conversion, a new starter, a new coil, a remanufactured Quadrajet carburetor, new fuel lines and a new thermostat. the 400 starts

easily without smoke and idles normally. There are no known leaks or weeping from the engine. same goes for the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission. The car is believed to retain its original rear axle.
