POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reviews Category 1 highway structures plans and other technical documents such as Design Variations, Design Exceptions, typical section packages and maintenance permits. Assists Central Office with the reviews of moderately complex Category 2 structures plans, continuous post-tensioned girders, and post-tensioned substructure components. Reviews contractor-initiated submittals and provides recommendations to construction personnel. Performs structural analysis and design, quantity calculations and prepares plans for Category 1 bridges and other highway structures for in-house Department projects.
Completes Quality Assurance/Quality Control reviews of design calculations and plans. As a registered professional engineer, this position oversees and/or signs and seals plans, reports and other documents as required. Assists with the development of scopes of services and staff hour estimates for Department and Consultant design projects. Negotiates staff hours for consultant design projects. Assists with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFP) for non-conventional bid projects.
