Scope of Work: The position is located at TON Health Care, under the general supervision of the Facility Manager or Maintenance Supervisor, and the incumbent is required to be on-call in a 24/7 operation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ( Depending on the area of assignment, an incumbent may not be required to perform some of the duties listed below): Maintains buildings by performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities using hand tools.
Follows and maintains any preventive maintenance schedule for all buildings and equipment. Receives work assignments via work orders; opens, tracks, and closes
out work orders; conducts data entry on work orders. Troubleshoots and replaces defective electrical materials and makes the necessary repairs. Paint structures, repair plaster and woodwork with carpenter tools.
Assists with carpentry maintenance tasks, including standard sheetrock/drywall installation or repair, window replacement, cabinet, and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, door and hardware installation; paints interior and exterior finishes, as appropriate. Repairs or replaces mechanical equipment in buildings as needed. Repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures as necessary. Replace light bulbs and ballasts. Perform routine maintenance tasks on the buildings daily. Conduct
general landscaping and street repairs. Performs urgent maintenance and repairs, including opening sewer blockages, maintaining boiler and water lines.
Conduct inventories of materials, re-orders, and stock materials. Keep all department grounds clean of trash and debris to ensure a pleasant appearance. Assists with landscaping by trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, repairing fences, sweeping sidewalks, repairing irrigation systems, controlling weeds, watering, and cutting lawns using various hand tools or lawn maintenance equipment as needed. Clean drainage ditches and culverts. Maintains and ensures maintenance tools and equipment are in safe working condition.
Notifies supervisor of concerning needs for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, ventilating, and equipment. Sets up and tears down meeting facilities according to program requests or directives. Assists departments in moving or unloading supplies, furniture, and equipment as needed. Cleans and removes materials and debris from work areas. Complies with safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Maintain required reports and records. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences.
Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements. Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work. Knowledge in the use of maintenance tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants. Knowledge of workplace hazards and safety procedures. Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
Skill in the safe operation of power tools and shop equipment. Skill in diagnosing and repair of equipment utilized. Skill in providing superior customer services to external and internal customers. Ability to use hand tools and lawn maintenance equipment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules. Ability to travel. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. One year of experience in at least one of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or carpentry? Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements: Licensed in a skilled trade preferred. Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and a National FBI fingerprint check are required to determine suitability for employment, including a 39-month driving record. May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles. Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham language and English as a condition of employment.
