Job Purpose High-Volt Electrical Lead Technicians perform tasks as assigned by the High-Volt Shop Supervisor. These tasks include work associated with the installation, operation, repair and maintenance of the Stanford substations, the electrical distribution system, electric metering, SCADA systems, streetlights and other work as assigned. High-Volt Electrical Technicians are expected to

have skills and knowledge equivalent to a journeyman electrician. High-Volt Electrical Lead Technicians must be familiar with standard industry practices for operations, maintenance and safety, and will always perform their work in a professional manner in accordance with Stanford and departmental administrative and safety standards, especially the Stanford Electric Safety and Operations Program (ESOP).

High-Volt Electrical Technicians regularly discuss their work with leads and supervisors and will bring any unsafe or improper practice or condition to the attention of the appropriate responsible persons. High-Volt Electrical Lead Technicians use tools, material, equipment and personal

protective equipment (PPE) provided by Stanford appropriately and as directed in the performance of their work at all times and will ensure that those working under their direction do the same.

High-Volt Electrical Lead Technicians will assist the shop Supervisor in the preparation of work plans and to provide technical direction to other technicians in the performance of their work. Characteristic Duties: Transmit instructions and specifications received from supervisor to technicians and specialists Plan, assign and explain tasks to workers and reallocate work assignments based on operational needs Motivate employees to meet quality and quantity standards Inspect the work of others for conformance with specifications Advise supervisor of work progress, problems and other significant information Provide training and orientation to new technicians.

Core Job Duties 30% - Routine Maintenance Installation, operation, repair and maintenance of the Stanford substations, the electrical distribution system, electric metering, SCADA system, streetlights and other work as assigned.

Reads and interprets vendor manuals and equipment diagrams. Performs routine maintenance on high voltage distribution systems and components. Performs High Voltage testing and troubleshooting procedures. Performs preventive maintenance and functional analysis according to procedures and schedules Tests and services all types of High Voltage electrical components and equipment. Reads, utilizes and calibrates precision measurement equipment.

Starts up circuits and individual instruments as necessary as the associated process equipment starts up Performs cleaning, mopping, painting, re-lamping and other general housekeeping duties needed for efficient and safe sanitary work environment. 20% - Corrective Maintenance Performs corrective maintenance High Voltage equipment and systems. Diagnoses and repairs systems and equipment problems. Modifies existing systems and equipment to meet changing requirements. Repairs, maintains, and installs High Voltage equipment, and rearrange and modify as directed. Installs, maintains and troubleshoots electrical distribution system, electric metering, SCADA system and street lights.

50% - Optimization and Administration of Plant Operations Coordinate with Low Voltage shop and other University groups as needed to troubleshoot and optimize all facets of Energy Operations. Serve as the expert and advisor on all substations, the electrical distribution system, electric metering, SCADA system, streetlights Participate in the initial development and updating of High Voltage procedures. Order parts, supplies, or equipment from catalogs or suppliers Document system and wiring changes on blueprints.

Work within the CEF computerized maintenance management system Complete maintenance logs, Switching Tags and other required documentation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School degree or equivalent Five years’ experience in operation, repair and maintenance of substations, electrical distribution systems, electric metering, and SCADA systems. Five years High Voltage Electrician a journeyman level. Experience with High Voltage equipment and procedures. A California driver’s license MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Sufficient knowledge of substations, the electrical distribution system, electric metering, SCADA system, streetlights and all interrelationship of the same.

Ability to troubleshoot complex multiple inter-active loop control systems. Knowledge and understanding of processes for systems relating to Heat Recovery Chillers, Conventional Chillers, Hot Water Boilers, emergency diesel generator, cooling towers, pumps, valves, Variable Frequency Drives, etc. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Ability to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches.

Knowledge of and ability to adhere to environmental and safety rules, regulations, and operating procedures. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others. Ability to make sketches of substations, the electrical distribution system, electric metering, SCADA system, and streetlights Ability to read blueprints and apply mathematic skills. Must be able to wear appropriate safety equipment. Ability to assist during all outage periods.
