The Director ensures that the student conduct system adjudicates all non-academic student conduct, and that student misconduct is supported by a philosophy of educating and supporting students while ensuring safety, security, and upholding the highest standards and expectations for ethical and responsible conduct.

The Director serves as the Title IX Coordinator and is responsible for overseeing institutional compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act (“Title IX”), the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2013 (“VAWA”),

the Campus interactionual Violence Elimination Act (“Campus Sa VE”), and other related federal and state laws. In the discharging the duties of the position, the Director works closely with the Office of the Provost, Department of Human Resources, the Office of General Counsel, and other University administrators.

The Director supervises the Assistant Director of Community Standards. Duties and Responsibilities: Provides direct leadership for, and management of, all undergraduate and graduate student conduct processes and serves as the university’s subject-matter expert on requirements of and compliance with Title IX, VAWA, Campus Sa VE, and related federal and state laws. Serves as process

advisor to the Student Affairs leadership on legal and policy development and related issues, which include ensuring student conduct processes and system(s) are in compliance with legislative, professional, and University regulations including FERPA and Clery.

Oversees all Title IX complaints and reports of gender discrimination, interactionual harassment, interactionual violence and related allegations of interactionual misconduct. Identifies and addresses any systemic problems relating to complaints and works with other departments to ensure Title IX policies are communicated to all constituencies. Works closely with the University’s Director of Diversity & Inclusion in investigating and responding to cases related to free speech, biased incidents, harassment, and discrimination.

Coordinates the University’s Title IX efforts, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate disclosures, policies, procedures and practices. Serves as an Administrative Hearing Officer for student conduct cases regarding matters that violate the student Code of Conduct. Identifies, recommends, and implements alternative forms of dispute resolution. Provides progressive ways to educate students who have violated the Student Code of Conduct such as Restorative Justice.

Develops, recommends, and implements proactive processes, systems, and modes of delivery of educational programs to promote good citizenship, civic and community engagement among the student body. Conducts investigations into interactionual misconduct, gender-based discrimination, student conduct and student organizational conduct as appropriate. Interviews students and other witnesses involved in conduct hearings and ensures due process to all parties involved in the hearing process. Oversees the preparation and administration of effective and timely student conduct hearings, which includes: pre-hearing meetings, attendance at hearings, communication with accused students, complainants, witnesses, and parents.

Ensures accurate and appropriate administration and communication of notifications and documentation of hearing schedules (date, time and location); reviews all evidence submitted for hearings. Conducts training for all administrative hearing officers, appeal panel members, assigned advocates, and assigned investigators in all aspects of the student conduct hearing processes and related University policy. Educates the University on related Student Code of Conduct standard and processes and oversees the annual publication of the Code of Student Conduct.

Responsible for developing and facilitating educational opportunities (programs/events) related to Title IX and appropriate reporting requirements, prevention of and response to interactionual misconduct, interactionual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Manage regular policy review, development, and revisions. Lead, manage, and evaluate the student conduct processes, procedures, and programs. Monitors and evaluates, in partnership with Public Safety and Residence Life, college policy enforcement processes and procedures.

Identifies and recommends ongoing improvements. Ensures all discipline referrals are addressed in a consistent and timely manner through appropriate student conduct processes and procedures. Works collaboratively with the Dean of Students Office to manage the implementation and evaluation of educational programming and resource materials at the University in areas of integrity, student ethical development, risk management, hazing prevention, health and safety, bystander intervention, and issues regarding student conduct. Works collaboratively with the Wellness Professionals (Counseling and Health) to manage the sanctions associated with alcohol and drug violations, as well as anger management.

Performs other duties as assigned.
