I have worked with special needs students of all ages, including at the college level. I believe that all students learn differently, and I use the strategies that work the best for each student. I am patient, non-judgmental: I will do my best to assist your student reach his/her full academic potential.

Center to this work is the design of meaningful and individualized academic experiences, small group activities, and a positive classroom environment that empowers the students in their learning experience.

Serving as the mathematics lead for Dominican Universitys Chicago Campus, the Mathematics Specialist provides rigorous and engaging instruction for students by supplementing and supporting mathematics curriculum initiatives. This role will work alongside mathematics faculty members, including adjunct faculty colleagues at the Chicago

Campus and full time Mathematics Department faculty who teach in the bachelor's program. This role will serve as a primary coordinator for the Peer-Facilitated Learning embedded student tutors at the Chicago Campus and will conduct tutor training workshops with support from both faculty colleagues and staff in our Academic Success Center who have expertise in social learning theory, active learning, and inclusive and culturally relevant pedagogies Particular attention will be given to supporting implementation of the mathematics curriculum as well as the development of mathematics interventions, pedagogical tools, and instructional practices for Chicago Campus Mathematics instruction.

Alongside mathematics faculty who teach in the bachelor's program, this role will focus on backssing both individual student and cohort performance while monitoring student progress, ensuring responsiveness to student needs.

JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Mathematics Success Programming Provide visioning for Mathematics Success initiatives and collaborate with campus partners to build and implement best-practice models Develop and coordinate a model of peer-facilitated learning that includes student peer tutors who are embedded in courses, who offer outside of class supplemental workshops, and who can provide one-on-one tutoring outside of class Collaborate with the Executive Director of Residence Life on the development of programming for the Living/Learning Community Collaborate with the Accommodations and Disability Access staff and the Developmental Mathematics Specialist in the Mathematics Department to develop best practices for the instruction of students with documented disabilities related to mathematics Support students with holistic care through our Student Care Team, connecting students with academic and non-academic supports Fall Semester: Serve as the instructor of record for the Mathematics Academy, a 1-semester self-paced foundational mathematics course Monitor student progress, including the administration of pre- and post backssments for each content area Supervise mathematics learning assistants (including part-time instructors and student peer tutors) and partner with them to provide individual or small group just-in-time instruction to students progressing through self-paced content modules Spring Semester: Serve as peer facilitated learning coordinator for the Pilsen campus Recruit, train, and support students in mentorship and peer-facilitated learning roles in the Functions and Modeling Course Teach two sections of the Functions and Modeling course Coordinate the instruction of the remaining sections of the Functions and Modeling course taught by part-time instructors MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field by date of appointment Demonstrated knowledge of supplemental instruction models and remediation strategies Broad community or university experience with Hispanic, first-generation, low income and/or other underrepresented students and services Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics teaching and learning models and support practices and policies Interest in approaches to team-learning and improvement in course teaching Knowledge of support services that address the the unique needs of academically and culturally diverse students Must be committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive working and learning environment All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.
