Assists with the School of Engineering and events such as orientation, departmental promotions, and back-to-school events. Completes documents such as graduation forms and other documentation related to student matriculation. Evaluates and/or updates student records, performs graduation checks, monitors student progress, and advises students on an appropriate plan of study. Develops and/or completes college/school documents such

as classroom assignments, plans of study, curriculum guides, graduation forms, and study abroad documentation. May assist with the recruitment of prospective students.

Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems. The general schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. College/School Overview: The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 135 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in 6 academic departments and the School of Engineering. The College serves more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 27 majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics

and Computer Science, Applied Mathematical Science, Engineering Physics, and Nursing.

Accreditation/Certification is held by ABET, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society. Department Specific Essential Job Functions: Designs, implements, maintains and improves an efficient and sustainable engineering student advisement process that integrates career counseling and academic guidance by engineering faculty. Counsel students regarding engineering program academic endeavors.

Provides guidance to students in the selection or change of engineering major. Evaluates student records and completes degree evaluations for individual students and student groups and articulates coursework, as needed. Assists in the development and implementation of student success and retention programs, initiatives, materials, and events. Acts as a resource person for academic information and decision-making strategies. Makes policy recommendations to their direct supervisor. Acts as a liaison between the School of Engineering, the campus community, and other institutions from which students transfer to UCO engineering programs.

Helps students find transformative co-curricular activities that provide opportunities for leadership; research, creative, and scholarly activities; service learning; global and cultural competencies, and health and wellness. Performs other related duties as assigned. Job Level: Scope & Impact: Responsible for providing oversight and coordination for staff involved in the execution of a particular activity. Responsible for providing day-to-day guidance to their direct reports and recognizing/escalating issues and opportunities to more senior management.

Communication & Interaction: Routinely answers questions and provides information and data requested by individuals within or outside of work area. Interprets instructions and policies. Uses diplomacy and communication skills in structured settings. Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates full knowledge of a particular task/area. Demonstrates ability to provide direction and supervise staff. Applies knowledge of employment regulations, policies, and procedures. May apply functional area expertise to solve problems. Problem Solving & Judgement: Identifies and resolves issues; uses judgment to escalate where appropriate.

Anticipates potential problems and recommend potential solutions. Coaches assigned employees to improve quality. Budget Authority: May be responsible for monitoring and adhering to the budget and is required to approve timesheets. Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for monitoring procedural compliance. Limited authority to grant exceptions within specific parameters. Reporting Relationships: Generally, reports to manager or higher May undertake some responsibilities of the Manager in his/her absence. Qualifications Required: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, or related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in a chosen field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.

Qualifications Preferred:3+ years of prior academic advising/counseling experience. Familiarity with admission and enrollment process in an institution of higher education setting and its undergraduate degree programs. Knowledge of Ellucian, Banner, and Microsoft Office products. Experience in working with engineering students. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledgeable in the higher education attainment process, particularly the requirements and general value of education.

Demonstration of a warm and caring professional attitude and creative counseling techniques. Ability to communicate effectively with department chairpersons and/or deans regarding degree program requirements. Ability to work well under pressure. Understanding of the University policies and procedures as they relate to academic advising. Ability to maintain databases. Will this employee supervise others? This position will possibly supervise student workers.
