Requisition Summary Kenworth’s Zero Emissions department is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team developing the next generation

of zero emissions trucks. This individual will develop electrical and electronic solutions for zero emissions vehicles.

Duties involve interfacing with Product Planning, Marketing & Sales, and Management to evaluate customer requirements and define vehicle system concepts. Scope of work includes researching proposals for potential new product designs, employing innovation skills to mature ideas for concept development, and complete the design of specific parts and systems in assigned phases of projects while applying standard engineering techniques. The successful candidate must initiate and coordinate design activities to align with goals across multiple PACCAR Divisions.

The ideal candidate will deliver validated designs that continue to enhance PACCAR’s reputation as an industry leader in the development of efficient and green solutions. Job Responsibilities: Manage project deliverables through all stages of development (Definition, Concept, Engineering, and Verification/Validation), and adapt job responsibilities within the team to ensure successful completion. Coordinate with Product Planning, Manufacturing & PACCAR Parts to align major program book of wishes and identify all customer requirements which cascade into design requirements.

Provide timely definition of design requirements by completing major program Product Description Books (PDB), establishing project scope, vehicle requirements and performance targets. Design electrical wiring, grounding, components, and power distribution systems for zero emission products. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure designs that maintain industry-leading quality and reliability. Proactively forecast and take steps to mitigate risks. Prepare work estimates for time, resources & budget. Apply electrical engineering knowledge to design and implement commercial truck electrical systems and components.

Support assembly, troubleshooting, and validation of pre-production vehicles. Up to 15% travel (domestic and international) Qualifications & Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree required. 3-5 years of industry-related background in the design and specification of automotive or heavy-duty truck components. Willingness to grow personally and professionally, ready to learn and make use of new engineering processes, techniques, and tools. Ability to handle multiple tasks, take initiative, act as a team player, and a problem solver.

Excellent professional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are required. High level of initiative and demonstrated problem solving experience. Proficiency in standard business software tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc. ). Awareness of industry standards and regulations (SAE, ISO, FMVSS, etc. ). Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) disciplines and tools preferred. Experience using Pro-E and/or Mentor Graphics/Siemens Capital systems will be given preference. Experience in battery chemistry and battery applications within the commercial truck market. Design and application of electrical architecture and system integration and its impact to reliability of battery systems. Experience in system design using Mentor Graphics.

Knowledge of DC power distribution, management, protection, fusing, practices and tools desired. Proficiency using Requirements Management tools, Systems Engineering tools, Creo or other 3D CAD software also desired. Engineering knowledge of heavy duty commercial truck safety systems, regulations, especially in the areas of: operating, service, and performance environments. Experience creating engineering documentation including preparation of component drawings, system schematics and diagrams, responding to Requests for Engineering Information, writing Engineering Change Notices, test coordination, support for production, and customer service.

Solid understanding of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques. Willing to learn and use new engineering processes and techniques and be resourceful in solving complex technical problems. A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in the design of complex mechanical equipment, preferably involving multiple degrees of freedom. Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M and tolerance stack up analysis is preferred but not required. Prior experience in the nuclear industry with nuclear fuel handling systems is preferred but not required.
