SUMMARY In alignment with company vision, mission, values, and objectives, the Maintenance Technician helps with upkeep of buildings; repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems, such as plastic Thermoforming machines, CNC Machines, air compressor and cooling/heating systems; and installation of system components.
The Maintenance Mechanic is expected to perform emergency repairs, which necessitates the ability to troubleshoot promptly and work with large production machines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provide a hands-on approach and follow work orders or verbal instructions. Assist in the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment. Completes repairs
and parts replacements on all plant equipment. Minimize breakdowns or disruptions in the production processes by following a preventative maintenance and inspection list and schedule.
Assist in the maintenance functions with a drive to eliminate repetitive issues by developing personnel and using metrics to help make decisions. Perform regular inspections of building and equipment to ensure proper functioning of equipment, and safety and environmental compliance. Performs building repair and maintenance including, but not limited to plumbing, light, electrical, painting, carpentry, landscaping, and basic HVAC. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Enter maintenance related data into systems as needed/appropriate.
Works effectively with other team members. Participates in cross department collaboration. Ensure operating/training manuals are up to date and used for training employees. Be a leader in safety, and enforce company policy regarding EH&S and Lean Initiatives Adhere to departmental budgets. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Associates or technical degree and a minimum of 2 years of maintenance related experience and/or training in the field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in 5 axis cnc machinery, pressure forming, vacuum forming equipment or similar heavy manufacturing environment, along with supervisory experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Must have strong Mechanical and Electrical skillsets. Understanding of basic machine shop tools as well as welding and metal fabrication. Familiar with electric code requirements. Experience with installation of machinery and equipment as well as dis-assembly. Good understanding of basic math is required for quick and accurate counting and calculations. Attention to detail, accuracy, time management, and organization.
Effective leadership skills and problem-solving techniques. Great interpersonal skills with a strong ability to communicate both positive and negative messages. Must be adaptable to changes in the work environment, comfortable with multiple competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events in a calm and logical manner. WORK CONDITIONS The employee will work in the plant. They will spend most of their time on the plant floor or in the maintenance shop.
Must be capable of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) necessary to comply with government and company safety standards. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 50 lbs and deal with non-temperature controlled environments. The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of business goals and objectives.
You are best suited for the role if you. Job Knowledge and Tasks Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from
operators in order to diagnose equipment problems. Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery. Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear. Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices. Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs. Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs. Troubleshoot, install, repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment, to include but
not limited to: hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, gearboxes, VFD/HMI/Servo control devices, conveying systems, industrial printers, valves, photo eyes, switches, heat exchangers, level controls.
Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment. As applicable refer to blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery. Operate and support industrial, refrigeration, boiler and utility operations. Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment. Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators. Enter codes and instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.
Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment (planned and unplanned maintenance activities). Respond to production needs as they occur on the production floor. Complete accurate and timely documentation of maintenance records, work orders and task records. Accurately input and record PM (planned and unplanned activities into SAP or other MIS/ERP system. Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). Comply with federal, state and local safety regulations. Follow SQF and Company GMP and 5S guidelines to produce a safe and quality product Adhere to the Saputo code of ethics and actively apply the Saputo values.
Work together professionally in a team environment with coworkers and other department personnel. Other duties as required by management. Job requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Industrial ammonia refrigeration, high pressure boiler and utility experience. 1-2 year(s) prior industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing environment required. Ability to utilize computer-based maintenance planning/PM ERP platforms, SAP a plus. Ability to trouble-shoot electrical, hydraulic systems and pneumatic equipment.
Strong electrical background in addition to mechanical skills. Experience with computerized or automated controls and ability to read electric schematics a plus. Self-motivated detail-oriented and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Willing to work any shift, including overtime and weekends as necessary.
