Duties Respond to accidents and other emergencies involving injury, illnesses, hazardous environments, and other unknowns. Upon arrival determines scene safety, makes a preliminary backssment of the patient's condition and selects from a variety of prescribed Basic Life Support Protocols, which is appropriate under the given circumstances.

Provide treatment as prescribed in protocol, modifies the protocol, as necessary, within prescribed limits. After stabilization of the patient is accomplished decide which medical facility to use and provide transport by the best route to the medical

facility. Respond to various alarms and combats fire requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks of moderate to severe difficulty to protect life and property.

Serves as member of the hazardous material/weapons of mass destruction (WMD) emergency response team and structural firefighting crew. Drives and operates fire department vehicles of significant complexity to include firefighting equipment (Fire Engines, Aerial Ladder), ALS Ambulance, Hazardous Materials Response unit, Support equipment, Rescue boats and forklifts as required. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background

investigation. A current, valid state driver's license and Government license is mandatory for this position.

A pre-employment and continuing drug testing is required. Physical fitness training is required for the position. Incumbent must pass a Firefighters Agility Test prior to employment and annually thereafter. Incumbent is required to pass preemployment and annual firefighter physicals. This position requires rotating shifts. 144 Firefighter hours per pay period. This position requires heavy lifting up to 75lbs. This position is mission essential. e. telephone and radios, extrication tools, ropes, medical tools, etc. ); 6) Actively participates in formal training and/or hands on training in fire protection and prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Maximum Entry Age (MEA) The MEA for Firefighters is 37. An employee originally hired into a covered position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches 37. Maximum Reentry Age An employee who previously served on a covered position may be rehired past the MEA as long as he/she is able to complete 20 years of covered service by his/her mandatory retirement age. The maximum re-entry age for the individual is calculated by determining the total amount of time he/she has served on a covered position and subtracting that from age 57 if a firefighter.

The employee's current age is compared to the calculated maximum re-entry age to determine if he/she can be rehired into the covered position. Waivers to Maximum Entry Age MEA may be waived, but only under specific circumstances and only if approved by the authorized entity: Waivers to MEA for firefighters must be approved by local Command.
