field trips and field activities Apply positive behavior techniques to improve children self-esteem Active supervision is required Promote diversity and respect parent/child cultural background Prepare and implement Nutrition Education Observe and refer children for development delay, if any Health & Safety Promote safety and personal hygiene Ensures the cleanliness and safety of materials, classroom and playground Disinfect work surface and items children play with daily Performing routine inspections of classroom and playground Communication & Collaboration Maintain effective and comfortable relationships with parents to freely discuss concerns Maintain positive relationship with families and
keep them informed of all updates pertaining to their child(ren) and the center Meals Assist in meal preparation and serving Participate in family meal style eating Professionalism Maintain effective relationship with co-workers and participate in meetings and suggest ideas Maintain professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, conference and taking course Review professional publications, establish networks, participate in professional societies, and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations Perform other duties as assigned SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES: Active child supervision is required at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GE Early childhood experience preferred Early childhood Associate Degree or a minimal of 45 credit hours in related field Adhere to Child and Adult Care Food Program and Department of child Care Development guidelines and requirements Food Handlers Permit First Aid and CPR Certificate Valid State Driver's License Must pass the Federal and Navajo Nation background check The Navajo Nation Preference in Employment Act applies to all hiring, promotions or transfers of individuals into this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements. Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures. Knowledge of early childhood development, diet and nutrition guidelines. Skill in administering disciplinary rules to children and resolving situational conflicts among children. Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules. Ability to supervise and ensure a safe learning environment for children. Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.
Ability to communicate, collaborate and participate in a variation of social/cultural backgrounds Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines. Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, lack of prejudice, and desire to help families PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods Stoop, bend, kneel or crouch for prolonged periods Use hands for dexterity of motion Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is typically performed in the kitchen, dining room, office and rarely in the classroom with loud noises.
Sometimes work may be exposed to heat, cold, fumes, and steams. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Evening and weekend, extended and irregular hours may be required.
