Operate an emergency vehicle during both the day and night; in emergency and pursuit situations involving speeds in excess of posted limits while exercising due care and caution and in exception to traffic control devices and in congested traffic and in unsafe road conditions and environmental conditions such as fog, smoke, rain, ice and snow.

Perform law enforcement patrol functions while working rotating shifts and unanticipated overtime. Perform tasks which require lifting, carrying or dragging people or heavy objects while performing arrest, rescue or general patrol functions. Perform searches of persons which involve touching and feeling to detect potential weapons and contraband. Prepare investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols and mathematical computations. Pursue fleeing suspects on foot both day and night in unfamiliar terrain or surroundings.

Read and comprehend rules, regulations, policies, procedures and the law for purposes of ensuring appropriate officer behavior/response and performing enforcement activities involving the public. Subdue resisting subjects using hands and feet while employing defensive tactic maneuvers or approved non lethal weapons techniques. Use bodily force to gain entrance through barriers to search, seize, investigate and/or rescue. Perform other essential tasks as identified by the Ferndale Police Department or the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Training Council's Job-Task Analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS Must have a valid operator's license. Must have at least two years of college credit (60 credits), or four years of active military duty with an honorable discharge, or a combinationof honorably military service and college education acceptable to the department. Participates in the on-call schedule and fulfills associated duties. Assist in preparation of cases for detention hearings. Conduct preliminary intake and release conferences for detained youth during normal duty hours. Provide on-going casework services to assigned client caseload. Refer appropriate cases to other community agencies as needed and monitor progress. Compile and evaluate data to develop case plan for assigned client caseload.

Complete required documentation for caseload management. Prepare case summaries as needed. Assist with transportation of youth as needed. Regular attendance is required. Maintain 80 hours biannually of approved training to maintain juvenile probation officer certification. Teaches classes/programs. Supervises community service. Will perform other duties assigned within professional competency. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge of the laws, principles, programs, functions and services governing the juvenile justice system and detention.

Must have knowledge of laws, principles and practices of social and correctional casework and counseling. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations; and ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals; and ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, attorneys, judges, client, families and the general public.

Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; and ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Security guards will, at random so as not to establish a pattern, conduct a minimum of four internal foot patrols and two external foot patrols of the CBOC Clinics.
