The RN Clinical Educator's role includes functioning as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for the Nursing Professional Development Specialty, and partner for practice transitions. Primary role responsibilities include onboarding/orientation, education, competency management, role development, collaborative partnerships with leadership, and fostering evidence-based practice and inquiry.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Resource and Unit Support Serves as a clinical resource and role model in all clinical areas, providing support to nursing and other healthcare personnel. Fosters the development of clinical

knowledge, skills, and abilities in all clinical settings. Provides nursing professional development support to clinical units, including staff development, education, and orientee/preceptor support.

Responds to change in clinical practice by planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating guidelines, protocols, and standards, in collaboration with the Director of Education, leadership, and Clinical Coordinators. Orientation and Onboarding Develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts, and evaluates the clinical onboarding/orientation programs, focusing on retention and growth for NCH staff. Supports the orientation of new nursing staff when changes in roles, responsibilities

and practice settings occur. Education Uses the education design process for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating educational activities that address gaps in knowledge, skills, and/or practice for the target audience to achieve specific outcomes.

Assists with the development and delivery of department-specific and centralized educational activities. Assists with coordination of educational activities across departments and disciplines in conjunction with the Director of Education. Facilitates continuing education opportunities. Role Development Assists staff by coaching, coordinating, facilitating, conducting, and evaluating activities to navigate role transitions, role integration, skill acquisition, and succession planning.

Examples include Preceptor Program, Leadership Development, New Graduate Nurse Residency, etc. Competency Management Assists with competency management by measuring, documenting, and supporting the competency process through backssing, developing, coordinating, managing, facilitating, conducting, and evaluating competency continuums to address staff and team performance. Ensures familiarity with hospital policies related to patient safety, standards of practice, regulatory compliance, and emergency preparedness.

Organizes and facilitates BLS, ACLS and PALS certification programs. Collaboration and Partnerships Provides consultation to leadership for program development. Partners with committees, councils and other departments in the identification and development of educational programs, training for new products, and development of competence backssment. Supports independent nursing practice of professional nurses through collaborative, consultative, and role modeling activities. Partners with individuals, groups, and/or organizations to share expertise in planning and decision-making to achieve common goals.

Evidence Based Practice and Quality Improvement Acts as a champion of scientific inquiry, generates new knowledge, and integrates best available evidence into practice. Uses best available evidence to guide practice decisions. Guides the development and revision of standards, policies, and procedures for the Department of Nursing. Facilitates the dissemination of practice and standard changes. Stays current on regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards. Participates in quality improvement initiatives. Student Placement Assists in the orientation and placement of students in clinical units.

Serves as a resource to clinical faculty. Responsible for Student to Career Program Personal Professional Role Competence and Growth Demonstrates competence in knowledge, skills, and practice as outlined in the Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice. Identifies personal needs and sets goals for own growth and development in collaboration with Director of Education. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required for the Position Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required Knowledge of skills required in clinical staff job descriptions. Demonstrated technical skills and judgment to function unsupervised.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Ability to work independently and with a team. Bachelor of Science of Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required; Master's degree in nursing or education preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.

BLS certification is required. ACLS and PALS certification is required within 3 months of hire. BLS, or ACLS, or PALS Instructor certification required within 9 months of hire. Nursing Professional Development Certification with 3 years of hire3 to 5 years of relevant acute care nursing experience at proficient or expert level of practice required; Critical Care or Emergency department experience preferred. Minimum of 1-year precepting and/or education related experience required. Special Requirements Must be available to work in the case of a Hospital declared emergency.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES Responsible for the clinical and operational oversight of patient care units during evenings, nights, weekends and holidays in the absence of Nurse Managers and Directors. Key areas of responsibility: triage, resource, patient care management, administration and case management.

Triage Role - Acts as the central contact person in coordinating critical and intermediate patient placement and collaborates with charge nurses to triage patient to appropriate care unit. transport of critically ill patients to off-island medical centers. Anticipates/proactively responds to capacity demands, as necessary. Resource Role - Facilitates access across all units.

Coordinates patient sitters on evening, nights, weekends and holidays. Patient Care Management - Serves as a clinical resource in the management of patient care. Performs the role of code blue team nurse, is a member of the Rapid Response Team and responds to patient care emergency situations. Provides clinical consultation

to staff. Assists staff in managing unit activity. Collaborates with other departments to facilitate/support patient care utilizing current policies and procedures.

Acts as a patient advocate, performing service recovery. Acts as a direct care provider in clinical situations, as warranted. Initiates huddles with staff at beginning and end of shift to improve inter-departmental communication. Administration - Provides nursing administrative support on evenings, nights, and weekends and holidays. Serves as the onsite administrative resource. Adheres to and demonstrates behavioral standards in all interactions. Acts as a liaison for administration, patients, nursing staff, medical staff and various other hospital departments, facilitating interdepartmental communication and adhering to hospital and department policies.

Initiates Emergency Preparedness Plan as necessary coordinating evaluations, internal and external disaster operations and reallocating personnel. Assists managers in staffing schedules and Kronos timekeeping. Reviews and revises Nursing/Patient Care Services policies and procedures as directed. Communicates with the CEO, Chief Nurse, Nursing Manager, other department heads and/or administrator on call as deemed necessary. Collaborates with external agencies, ie.

Police, Fire, Medical Examiner, as necessary. Case Management - Assumes responsibility for the utilization of the Inter Qual Criteria.
