Ability to meet deadlines and submit reports in a timely manner. Computer skills for accessing and entering Student Health Information and the School Health Manual. Makes home visits when need arises. Maintains student health and immunization records and appropriate follow-up. Provides emergency care and first aid for all students and employees. Authorizes exclusion and-readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases. Serves as a consultant and resource person to staff, parents and students in identifying community resources. Advises teachers and consults with parents on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health concerns Serves on and or attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and curriculum.
Serves on SST, IEP and 504 meetings when the student has a health condition that effects his/her ability to learn. Participates in in-service training programs, workshops, and continuing education to maintain professional status Serves as a consultant in matters of school health, safety, health education, and sanitary conditions. Assists principal and Lead Nurse in performance of any other health related assignments. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be available to respond to emergencies at other Santa Fe Public Schools campuses. Assists in supervising, training, and delegating assignments, medication administration, and procedures to Health Assistants.
Manages and oversees the implementation of the District medication policy. Develops and implements individual health care plans. Reviews, administers, and documents immunizations as deemed appropriate for student health. Is available for immunization clinics. Attends all mandatory in-services. Participates in the ongoing operation of School based health centers and acts as a leader when appropriate. Collaborates with local schools of nursing. Additional Duties: Collects and backsses data, which involves the student, family, school staff, and community.
The priority of data collection is determined by the nursing diagnosis and the student's immediate condition and/or needs. Screens individual and school population. Reviews and develops immunization health records. Identifies students with special needs. Identifies communicable and infectious diseases. Documents relative data and retrieves as needed. Performs home visits as needed and deemed appropriate per request by Principal. Analyzes the backssed data in determining the nursing diagnoses. Maintains an information management system that includes current and cumulative health records on all students.
Maintains student emergency records. Provides current nursing literature resources for use in formulating nursing diagnoses from the data. Identifies outcomes of the individual from the nursing diagnoses. The outcomes are formulated with the input from the student, family, school staff and providers. The outcome is culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable. Makes appropriate referrals to the interdisciplinary school team and to community providers. Acts as a medical resource and consultant in the school setting.
Utilizes medical expertise in the community as needed. Initiates a plan of care, which is developed in compliance with local, state and federal regulations as well as providing for the continuity of care for the individual. The school nurse will follow the current standards of school nurse practice in formulating the plan of care. Provides special need students with IEP, 504 and Individual Healthcare plans (IHP). Develops and implements school health programs with staff and community. Plans and promotes age appropriate health education through classroom instruction. Develops and updates classroom health curriculum utilizing an integrated approach.
Participates in in service training programs, workshops and continuing education to maintain professional status in accordance with the current standards of school nurse practice and the New Mexico Board of Nursing. Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care. Administers medications and treatments prescribed by the student's primary care provider (prescription medications) or with permission by parents for (non-prescription) medications. Provides emergency care and first aid for all students and employees.
Makes emergency and non-emergency referrals to community health care providers as necessary. Teaches related health skills in disease prevention. Fosters optimal mental health for students and staff. Provides a healthy, safe and nurturing environment. Implements policies and procedures regarding communicable diseases, i. e. exclusions and readmissions. Communicates effectively with the student, family, school staff, community, and other providers regarding student care. Employs counseling techniques and crisis intervention strategies for individuals and groups. Within the guidelines of the Board of Nursing, delegates responsibilities for the performance of an activity from one individual to another through supervision, education and training.
Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions as outlined in the plan of care. Evaluates expected outcomes through student progress, observation, examination, and positive responses. Collaborates with student, family, staff, and community to gain feedback regarding the effectiveness of the plan of care and intervention. Salary Range and Benefits: $60,000 to $70,000+ Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees that work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
