PHYSICAL EFFORT Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods to blast interior and exterior surfaces.
Many of the larger items to be blasted require blasting positions on surfaces where effective positioning of the blasting nozzle/hose are physically difficult to maintain. Frequently lifts and carries objects weighing up to 75 pounds, and may be required to manipulate objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Electric lifts, cranes, or other workers are available to assist with extremely heavy items. Required to control hand-held blasting hose with nozzle subject to extremely high pressure (e.
g. in excess of 100 psi). WORKING CONDITIONS Sandblast chamber work exposes incumbent to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and broken bones. Also exposed to constant noise, dust, flying abrasives, rust, scale, paint chips, etc. Required to wear an air-fed hood, heavy protective clothing, gloves, ear protection, and safety shoes.
