In the Research Specialist IV role, you will utilize existing quality standards and procedures to collect, analyze, and interpret data for preparation of summaries and reports; keep detailed daily organized labs notes of all processes; in addition to performing other record-keeping tasks.

You may expect to review and summarize literature, and attend meetings to present findings or results. To successfully fill this role, you will provide technical support for the lab; prepare samples for fluorescent and electron microscopy; as well as provide work products documentation, including but not limited to microscopy, imaging, and lab equipment. Additional duties

may include ensuring appropriate inventory levels of expendable supplies; assisting with ordering, receipt, and stocking of supply inventories; in addition to organizing, unpacking, and rotating stock, plus taking part in laboratory housekeeping.

In a supervisory capacity, the Research Specialist IV works with staff to manage, use, troubleshoot, and train on instrumentation such as cryo-FIB SEM Helios 5 Hydra CX or Aquilos-2, ACE900, cryo plungers, high pressure freezers, freeze-substitution devices, electron microscopes (T12, T20, Glacios, Krios) and related accessories. This role will be in charge of ensuring that the lab and its equipment are properly maintained, as well as prioritizing, scheduling, and coordinating usage of equipment across multiple NIH institutes.

You will also have the opportunity to assist students and postdocs with projects, in addition to working on independent projects. Who are we looking for? A candidate that possesses a B. S. or higher in a related field required; and a minimum six years’ experience working with cryo-FIB required. Experience in fields such as fluorescent and/or electron microscopy preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for what is listed.

The pay range for this position is $90,000 to $95,000 USD per year. S. Army Research Laboratory customer. Support requirements are: Perform structural dynamic analyses to determine the structural response of complex structures and the response of elastic-plastic and viscoelastic materials including energetic materials to thermal and mechanical loads. Create and modify computer aided drawings (CAD) of components and structures. Determine

the impact of novel materials on the response and survivability of structural components and the integrity of energetic materials subjected to thermal and mechanical transient loading.

Design fixtures and components to support high-g and ballistic experiments. Conduct structural dynamic analyses, in conjunction with complementary thermos-mechanical experiments, to develop appropriate material models for gun, rocket, and ramjet propellants. Interpret research requirements to define appropriate technical solutions to meet programmatic goals. Diagnose and troubleshoot models and methods utilized in course of conducting simulations. Design mounting fixtures for components being evaluated in experiments through structural analyses. Support the design of experiments at ARL experimental facilities, other government agencies, contractor sites, and academic sites.

Investigate Army, Do D and other Customer research and development problems. Minimum Required Education/Qualifications for Structural Computational Researcher MS in Engineering or Physical Sciences Degree and at least one (1) years of practical experience to include at least one (1) year working in an academic laboratory, government laboratory or industry laboratory. Experience conducting basic and applied research to predict the response of materials and structures under dynamics loads Experience documenting numerical and analytical procedures, method, results and conclusions.

Experience utilizing ABAQUS (or other modern Finite Element Code), Hyper Works (or similar pre/post processor software), and Solid Works software.
