Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program gives vet tech/nursing students hands-on experience in emergency medicine while working alongside our credentialed, emergency veterinary technicians (known internally as Veterinary Nurses).
Students will focus on honing their emergency skills including obtaining patient vitals, processing laboratory samples, caring for hospitalized patients, triaging emerging cases, and collaborating in a fast-paced environment. Be trained to properly perform all aspects of CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer. Collect samples and perform diagnostic tests including in-house & point-of-care tests and diagnostic imaging. Assist in setting-up, performing, monitoring sedation and surgical anesthesia with LVT or DVM supervision. Perform nursing care tasks such as placing and maintaining urinary catheters and nasal oxygen tubes, and Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot oxygen cages and other oxygen administration techniques. Work alongside veterinary nurses as a vital member of the nursing care team.
Obtain additional training along guided growth pathways offering roles in addition to direct nursing care such as veterinary technician credentialing, trainer role, community outreach, and leadership. Veterinary Assistants can additionally (where permitted by law): Administer, monitor, and maintain patients under general anesthesia with or without mechanical ventilation for patients with varied levels of risk. Perform advanced vascular access techniques including jugular catheter placement, sampling line placement, central line placement, intraosseous catheterization, and arterial catheterization.

Equestrian Center (UFVH at WEC) is seeking applicants for a small animal urgent care veterinarian. The hospital is a 40,000 square foot newly built hospital at the World Equestrian Center (WEC), a high profile 300-acre equine facility in Ocala, 30 minutes south of Gainesville.
The successful candidates will provide urgent care for small animal patients, with a large adjacent caseload originating from the thousands of visitors to the WEC events and the rapidly growing greater Ocala area. The hospital is fully equipped including operating room, in-house laboratory, oxygen cages, ultrasound, advanced anesthesia and monitoring tools and state of the art dentistry equipment. The hospital is
staffed by veterinary technicians overnight allowing you to hospitalize patients under supervision, your patients will also have easy access to UF PETS - our full-service emergency practice in Ocala.
Duties will be focused on the provision of patient care during daytime or swing shifts dependent on assignment, with weekend coverage.
