We have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts available, which require some weekends, shared holiday and some on-call coverage. What is the role of the Emergency Technician? As a member of the Emergency team, you will be responsible for all aspects of Emergency care including triage, rescue efforts, providing Intensive Care to hospitalized patients, administering and monitoring anesthesia,
admitting and discharging patients from the hospital, and client communication and education.

This position is an integral part of a program helping to reduce pet homelessness in Western North Carolina and providing affordable spay/neuter and vaccinations to families for their pets. The person in this position will also be cross-trained in our shelter medical department and will occasionally be expected to assist with the care of animals
in our Adoption Center. Availability: The Brother Wolf mobile spay and neuter clinic operates four days a week to conduct high volume spay and neuter in Buncombe and surrounding counties.
The Surgical Veterinary Assistant must be available in accordance with the clinic schedule. The person in this position will work four ten-hour days each week on a Monday-Thursday schedule. Early mornings and some evenings may be required on these days. Essential Function/Major Responsibilities: Assist with overseeing all aspects of assigned patients, including (but not limited to): intake, physical examination; surgical prep; pre- and post-operative care; anesthetic induction and monitoring; recovery;
and emergency response. Assist with managing the flow of animals through surgery to ensure efficient operation of the clinic Administers oral, topical, and subcutaneous medications as needed Conducts cleaning and sanitizing as necessary throughout the day Assists with inputting medical notes into a computer system and preparing post-operative paperwork Liaisons with the public to admit and discharge animals and convey after care instructions.
Participates in relationships with community veterinarians, veterinary hospitals, and professional associations as requested Ability to drive 26' mobile clinic to locations and assist with daily set up. Responds to medical issues involving patients as necessary Communicates any issues concerning staff or patients with Mobile Clinic Program Director Fills in for other areas and performing other tasks/functions as needed Treats all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance.

Promotes a humane and caring attitude towards all animals Qualifications: 2 years of prior experience working with animals is preferred, shelter or veterinary clinic experience is a plus.
Candidates with previous experience assisting with surgery in a veterinary clinic are strongly encouraged to apply Experience caring for and handling animals in a safe and effective manner, especially large or untrained animals Familiarity with diseases common to dogs and cats For vehicle insurance purposes, candidates must be at least 26 years of age and have a valid driver's license with no moving violations within the past three years for vehicle insurance purposes. Physical Requirements: Physical ability to walk and or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required. Ability to bend and squat. Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands and to hear and see clearly. Physical ability to push up to 150lbs and to carry up to 50lbs regularly and independently throughout a regular workday required. Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program gives vet tech/nursing students hands-on experience in emergency medicine while working alongside our credentialed, emergency veterinary technicians (known internally as Veterinary Nurses).
Students will focus on honing their emergency skills including obtaining patient vitals, processing laboratory samples, caring for hospitalized patients, triaging emerging cases, and collaborating in a fast-paced environment. If you're as interested in emergency medicine as we are, we'd love to have you! Note: This is an unpaid externship and rabies vaccinations are required unless your school's rabies mitigation policy allows you to be unvaccinated
and still handle unvaccinated pets.
