Main Purpose and Function The SAP Functional Solution Architect helps support and lead the implementation of enterprise, business, information/data, and application solutions on the City’s ERP platform (SAP). The role provides leadership in planning and implementing

enterprise information systems to support both distributed and centralized business operations. Also provides ongoing guidance on business operations across the organization to ensure the effective use and development of the system.

The position has access to confidential information and makes recommendations for changes in methods, processes and procedures that may impact on financial and operational areas as well as staffing work loads, working conditions, changes in positions or staffing levels. Specific Duties/Responsibilities Leads end-to-end solution design and discussions including integrations with non-SAP systems, coordinate with SAP technical and security teams as well as other

non-SAP technical teams at the City. Manages projects of varying size and complexity from solution backssment and project planning through to final implementation.

Develops and maintains related work and resource plans, directs assigned resources, manages project stakeholders and mitigates project risks. Contributes to the strategic planning of the SAP functional platform and related solutions. Considers and makes recommendations on the functional design and expansion of the City’s SAP and related platforms to meet current and future operational requirements. Works closely with business process owners/managers to identify opportunities to streamline and improve business operations.

Researches, evaluates and recommends SAP and related functional solutions. Consults with customers to understand their requirements. Probes and listens for information, influences people, facilitates consensus building, synthesizes and translates ideas into actionable requirements, articulates those ideas to others. Identifies use or purpose, constraints, risks, etc. Participates in the discovery and documentation of the business scenarios driving the solution. Understands the requirements and captures understanding in functional design and solution specification.

Provides project management services for programs and projects and management of the resource/team assigned. Facilitates the discussion and development of SAP-related functional alternatives, recommends the most suitable options and leads the subsequent development of solutions. Manages the SAP functional environment. Represents SAP technology and issues during development and decision points. Acts as an " agent of change" communicating the need for the implementation of the SAP functional solutions. Continuously fosters the sharing of business unit, and technical information across the organization.

Develops and ensures a wide range of SAP related documentation including technical support/design/decision documents etc. Provides general support of the SAP functional platform including, but not limited to, end user support, investigation and resolution of errors/problems (involving SAP if/as required), system configuration and testing. Provides technical assistance to business applications upgrades and implementation of other modules, including integration to other applications. Remains current with developments in SAP and related technologies (eg. new releases and technical solutions).

Develops implementation plans, including scope, budget, and schedule for projects and initiatives. Participates in the development of IT specifications, budgeting estimates for capital and operating requests, procurement processes, and contract negotiation. Makes recommendations for changes in methods, processes and procedures that may impact on financial and operational areas as well as staffing workloads, working conditions, changes in positions or staffing levels. Has access to highly sensitive and business critical data from all City departments. Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience implementing, configuring and supporting SAP HR, SAP payroll and time evaluation. SAP certification in a related area (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) Minimum of 1 years of experience in project management including all aspects of PM role, PMP certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of current IT trends and technologies specifically Human Resources, Payroll and Time solutions.

Proficient in the techniques required to produce designs of complex SAP platform solutions, including requirements discovery and analysis, formulation of solution content, identification of solution alternatives and their backssment, technology selection, and design configuration. Ability to direct groups with diverse opinions together to reach a consensus and the ability to lead the effort of architecting a technical solution to address complex business problems. Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills are required. Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.

Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate technical and non-technical staff. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and respond to requests in a timely manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and team members to provide advice, information and assistance. Thorough knowledge of business practices and processes particularly SAP Payroll and time (time entry and time evaluation). Ability to understand ABAP, debug and design technical solution.

Good understanding of system integration across various SAP applications. Experience designing SAP functional solutions. Knowledge and experience with SAP cloud and on-premises environments (eg. S/4HANA, SAP ECC, Portal, etc. ) and general system operation functions Knowledge of data and table structures Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA configuration and administration for HR modules. Thorough working knowledge of office productivity tools (e. g. Windows, MS Office, MS Project, etc. ) Capable of handling business critical and sensitive information in a position of trust. Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite.
