Responsibilities: Serve as lead mechanical engineer for rocket missions. Perform structural analysis on sounding rocket hardware and ground support hardware to validate the design. Research, develop, design, and analyze suborbital rocket mechanical structures, components, and equipment applying principles and techniques of mechanical
engineering to fulfill mission requirements. Manage Mass Properties and Gravimetrics of concepts, designs, and actual measurements of flight hardware.
Create Design and Manufacturing Documentation/Drawings and 3D CAD models using Solid Works. Submit documentation to Production Planning and provide oversight of fabrication in the Peraton Princess Anne Machine Shop and to Mechanical Technicians. Direct and coordinate activities involved in assembly, operation, problem resolution, and repair of sounding rocket mechanical structures and systems; and create required processes and procedures. Support and plan for the testing of rocket components, sub-assemblies, and full payloads which includes
test plans and loads, oversight of testing, validation of new designs, and interpreting results.
Create documentation for design and testing, and present to a panel of peers and customers for review. Brief customers on technical development projects and negotiate design modification as needed. Support the mission manager in planning and tracking cost and schedule requirements. Provide support for field operations as needed, either remotely or in the field. Multitask on numerous projects & missions at different levels of development, (design, fabrication, testing, etc). Management of mechanical engineering assignments, and the development of new products and engineering specifications for applicable projects.
Work within the bounds of the Peraton Princess Anne engineering processes to provide world class quality designs and products to our customers.
