Orientation Season is one of the most exciting times of the year for the campus! We have the opportunity to connect with and make an impact on eager incoming first-year students, transfer students, and their families!

Students' experience with orientation is our first opportunity at ensuring student success. Our Orientation Leaders are committed to the university and the Flint Community. We are seeking student leaders who truly enjoy serving and helping others. Responsibilities New student orientation informs incoming

students on university policies, opportunities, and regulations, acquaints them with their surroundings, and addresses their individual needs for success at UM-Flint.

Orientation Leaders will work anywhere from five hours to thirty hours per week. Weekend events are extremely limited, so there is time for weekend activities and outside employment. Below are the major areas of responsibility. Training: Training is required and will be held weekly on Friday 12:30-3:30PM beginning Friday, February 10, 2023. In addition to the training sessions for the entire team, there may be additional training sessions to provide development time to create various workshops for the sessions. Early Communication:

Beginning in April, Orientation Leaders will be expected to spend five hours per week in the Student Success Center contacting new students.

Orientation Leaders must be comfortable and effective in communicating with new students over the phone and by email. Orientation Sessions: The sessions include first-year student orientation and transfer student orientation sessions. Orientation Leaders are expected to work every first year and transfer session and must be present for the entirety of them. Session Dates: April 26 May 16 June 6 June 7 June 13 June 20 July 11 July 18 August 1 August 9 August 15During the sessions, Orientation Leaders will be expected to present workshops, assist students with campus technology (including the registration process in SIS), relay information about campus policies and procedures, give tours of campus, and other various tasks to address new student success.

These typically take place from the end of August into the first few weeks of classes of the fall semester. These events include the My Flint events, Wolverine Welcome, Move-in Day, Individualized Tours, and others as they arise. If an Orientation Leader's fall classes conflict with any of these events, an exception can be made.

Continuing Communication: During and through the fall semester, Orientation Leaders will continue to reach out to our new students. This will be similar to the Early Communication program, but focused on following up with the students to address their immediate and future needs for success.
