Project Overview: Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer,

the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Reston, Virginia project office. Part-Time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses.

Position Summary Primary responsibilities, as the technical specialist for the Poland Project in support of the NS&E global business unit, include the performance of environmental nuclear safety chemical hazards, dispersion, and extreme weather analyses.

Additional responsibilities include the validation, verification and commercial grade dedication of modeling software used for hazards and dispersion modeling. Has technical responsibility for interpreting complex requirements and problems, evaluating, and applying appropriate scientific/environmental engineering principles to solutions. Provides technical assistance to other Environmental Services (ES) personnel assigned to projects and other project functions.

Job Dimensions: Supervision Received Receives technical and administrative supervision from a Chief Engineer, Environmental Service Manager, Engineering Manager or group/department manager with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits. May receive technical guidance from a Principal Engineer/Principal Scientist. Supervision Exercised May directly supervise other environmental scientists/engineers and provide technical oversight and direction to environmental subcontractors. Contacts Maintains relationships with internal Bechtel organizations (e.

g. Engineering, Construction, and Subcontracts), customer, and contractor/subcontractor representatives to coordinate technical/scientific issues and implementation of ES functional responsibilities into project proposals, designs, construction plans, and subcontractor bid packages. Maintains contact, as appropriate, with government regulatory and resource agencies to obtain current information on new regulations, program initiatives, and technical requirements and standards. Maintains contact with other ES personnel (e. g. Project Environmental Lead) to keep them informed of changing requirements and to provide technical assistance as needed.

Maintains contact with customers to exchange information on ES issues, technical information, and new technologies. Responsibilities Preparation/lead technical specialist for environmental engineering calculations (e. g. atmospheric dispersion modeling, control room habitability, chemical and other hazards analyses) for nuclear power plant license applications. Technical knowledge of scientific systems and calculations, application of scientific methods and materials, and application of scientific computer programs, including software commercial grade dedication, verification and validation processes.

Identifies and defines problems; plans and conducts research aimed at their solution. Conducts or leads special studies on new technologies, methods, and materials. Carries out special or unique studies requiring unconventional or novel approaches or research techniques. Conducts research, presents papers, and keeps abreast of technological developments in a specialty, keeping engineering management informed of important new advances. Serves as consultant to project and specialty engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel on assignments having special and unique features.

Supports preparation of and reviews discipline estimates, discipline work plans, budgets and schedules. Participates in and fosters a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction. Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field with at least 9 years of experience in engineering (environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical), or physical sciences (e. g. chemistry, geology, meteorology) from an accredited college or university, or in lieu of a formal degree at least 15 years of environmental related experience.

Additional Qualifications Specialized/advanced knowledge in a field of environmental/chemical engineering (e. g. atmospheric dispersion modeling, nuclear safety hazards analyses, meteorology). Knowledge of engineering/scientific systems, calculations, applications and relevant computer applications. Knowledge of NRC and industry regulations pertaining to external hazards analyses. Assists in the development of National NEPA documentation, site selection studies, environmental permitting inputs, and nuclear safety analyses, for assigned projects.

Develops and delivers sustainability training to support the NS&E and Corporate sustainability strategy. Supports NS&E Sustainability Manager in the development in integration of Enterprise Sustainability goals, tools, guidance, policies and procedures. Develops plans for Site Management to implement, a comprehensive sustainability and community relations strategy for projects (as required) that is aligned with the customer’s requirements. This includes coordinating and implementing carbon backssments and carbon reduction strategies and sustainability management plans.

Provides strategic advice for projects to manage Sustainability programs and supports community relations staff in the implementation of the activities, ensuring alignment with the project communications strategy. Provides strategic advice to project teams on potential community impacts, expectations, and related implications; backsses consequences of project decisions; and works with project functional teams to develop proactive solutions to community and environmental issues to minimize external risks and manage public expectations. Provides support for ES&H safety data analytics and ISO 14001 data and management requirements.

Provides technical support to feasibility studies, site backssment studies, permitting, and ES&H Policy 111 reviews. Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with at least 9 years of experience in a sustainability related field (environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical). In lieu of a degree at least 15 years of professional related experience. Additional Qualifications Knowledge of NRC and industry regulations pertaining to NEPA analyses.
