The incumbent will teach the maximum load of equated hours as indicated in the Faculty Guidelines each semester in area(s) of competency. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other relevant duties may be required. Teaching: Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline. Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing

innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.

Develop and use a syllabus for each course within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines and submit one copy to the department chair. Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles. Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner. Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.

Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials. Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs. Use equipment and facilities responsibly and courteously. Where appropriate, assist the chair with the routine maintenance of instructional laboratories. Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies. Academic Advising: Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Provide access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.

Provide advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues. Make presentations on a particular academic field or program - its subject matter, objectives, opportunities for further study (transfer opportunities), and opportunities for work (co-ops, part-time, work-study) and careers, special clubs and activities available, support services, scholarships, etc. Create and maintain a website dedicated to the types of information specified in bullet three. Work with Chair to take on appropriate academic advising activities as needed by the College and Department.

(For examples, please refer to the HCC Faculty Workload Guidelines). Professional Development: Establish annual objectives for professional growth in consultation with the department chair. Keep pace with developments in the discipline. Learn and apply technologies that support student learning. Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college. Institutional and Community Service: Participate in scheduled institutional service activities including opening week events, conference days, and commencement exercises.

Participate in discipline committee or program meetings and activities Actively participate in department, college or system meetings and/ or committees. Be familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures of HCCS. Participate in college-related activities such as student activities, selection of faculty, community education, recruitment of students, and/or special programs. Participate in business and/or student activities and/or community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission of HCCS. Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.

Participate in the HCCS planning process by assisting in the formulation of departmental objectives and goals and in establishing budget priorities. Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines and requirements of business/ industry, and higher education. Assist in the articulation of courses and programs with secondary and post-secondary institutions. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities list above.

Candidates with experience writing AND producing podcasts will receive additional consideration. We are currently searching out innovation in these areas and are open to proposals that expand our program offerings. All instructors in this field have credits of produced work, and we are especially interested in those with current/recent credits in order to help students understand and navigate the evolving landscape of these fields. Classes can be online

or in person. Classes held in-person meet once a week for 10 weeks, typically evenings from 7-10 pm PT.

Online classes are offered in two formats: deadline-driven and asynchronous, or live remote instruction over web conferencing. Many in-person courses also take advantage of the online course format for distributing course materials, syllabi, assignments, and feedback. Instructor Duties: Develop or update course syllabus to meet campus approval requirements, in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director and Program Manager. Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students and leverage additional resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum (i.

e. make arrangements for guest speakers, etc. ) Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning Implement inclusive teaching strategies that engage learners from a variety of backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experience levels with the goal to achieve equity in learning outcomes. Update materials periodically, and regularly monitor course evaluations in order to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum. Utilize Canvas as a course support platform in in-person courses, and as the delivery platform in online and hybrid courses.

Post final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner, no later than 2 weeks after course end date. Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner. Communicate with Program Director and Program Staff in a timely manner. Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner including: completing all new hire paperwork, submitting updated quarterly syllabus, posting bio and photo on the UCLA Extension website, accepting quarterly contract, submitting required textbook orders, and communicating classroom needs to the appropriate people.

Participate in required orientations and instructor training programs. Assisting in occasional program activities such as competition/scholarship judging, guest lecturing, community events, script consultations (for additional compensation), etc. Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies in the classroom inclusive of both domestic and international student populations. Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in the field of Editing & Publishing Respond to student inquiries about final grades and consult with Program Director as needed. Maintain a record of final grades for up to 13 months following the last class session.

Position Summary The Adjunct – Multi-Skilled Health position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The Adjunct role provides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair, or other leadership members. Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology. Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies. Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester.

Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporates departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Employs appropriate backssment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives. Engages in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development. STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & ADVISEMENT Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.

Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and policies of the College. Uses technology to assist in communication with students. Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom. Advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion. Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
