Our valued team enjoys competitive pay and great benefits. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CITY ATTORNEY As a City Attorney, you work closely with the Court and other staff members on a regular basis. With your keen eye for detail, you prepare legal documents including ordinances, resolutions, deeds, releases, contracts, and memoranda, ensuring they are accurate and complete. You represent the city in court as needed in various civil cases. Acting as a prosecutor, you review evidence

then prepare pleadings and briefs. Leveraging your communication skills, you engage in negotiations with outside parties as well as appear against accused persons in municipal court.

You perform research on issues relevant to operational and policy-making processes as well as advise city officials on legal matters. You are a valuable resource for our local government, and you take pride in serving our incredible city! QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CITY ATTORNEY •Juris doctorate from an accredited law school•3 years of experience as a licensed attorney•Membership in the Montana State Bar and license to practice law in the State of Montana and federal courts We will consider any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in litigation, contracts, or municipal law is desirable, but we will take multiple factors into consideration. Can you manage your time well and effectively prioritize tasks? WORK SCHEDULE This full-time local government position typically works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Some evening work may be required to attend City Commission meetings.

The person in this position will oversee project activities related to grant cases and act as a Victim Witness Coordinator for victims of interactionual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking incidents in Lake County, in addition to other office duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Clarity of speech and hearing that permits the employee to communicate well with law enforcement, supervisors, employees, legal professionals and the general public. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and far vision, the ability to adjust focus while operating computers and viewing into monitors and to read paper documents. Requires

manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate a personal computer, photocopier, document scanner, telephone and filing system. Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to stoop and kneel and sit for 1 to 3 hours at a time in the courtroom. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE : Set up and organize legal files for assigned cases; Ensure grant requirements are being met; Produce and process various legal documents to be filed with Justice and District Courts; Calendar hearings, motion responses, and trial calendar for prosecutors;

Request and process discovery; Communicate with victims and law enforcement regarding case status both orally and in writing; Assist with trial preparation for both felony and misdemeanor cases; Apply payments to accounts receivable; Attend meetings and court hearings; Schedule and attend interviews with victims of felony and misdemeanor cases; Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : PARALEGAL experience is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate would have some knowledge and understanding of: Principles and practices of crisis intervention and trauma counseling; Skill in problem solving/conflict resolution; Legal experience (preferably criminal law) or criminal justice experience; Familiarity with legal terminology; Various office equipment including telephone, copier, printer, computer, and media equipment; Microsoft Office software The ideal candidate would have the ability to: Type 60 wpm with no errors; Multi-task, organize and prioritize; Prepare legal documents; Focus and concentrate in a stressful environment with heavy workloads and strict timelines; Work independently and be self-directed while still following established procedures and processes; Maintain strict confidentiality; Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Preferred Education/Experience: Minimum of two years of office or law office experience. HOURS/DAYS: 8 a. m. to 5 p. m. /M-F. WAGE: $19.00-23.00 hourly depending on experience.
