Reporting Relationships This position directly reports to the Plant Engineering Manager and does not supervise others. About the Role We are seeking a Staff Project Engineer to be a part of the Plant Engineering team based in Charlotte, NC. The Mechanical Project Engineer is a self-starter that takes ownership of assigned projects. Responsible for the entire project life cycle from scope determination through timely project closure on assigned projects. Works in cooperation with other project engineers to assist with project details as appropriate. Required Skills/ Abilities Required Proficient in the use of Auto CAD Proficient in the use of Auto Desk Inventor (proficiency in Solidworks is acceptable, but must transition to Inventor) Proficient in MS Office products and technical writing Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills Proficient in mechanical system design for a balance of reliability, cost, and effectiveness Strong team approach to satisfy timelines Desired Understanding of industrial electrical controls P&ID Diagram interpretation and modification Knowledge of automation in material handling for efficiency improvements Application and design of plastic extrusion equipment.
Application and design in bonding, ovens, winding, conversion slitting, and packaging. Application and design with thin film web handling and tension control. Application with online analyzers and inspection equipment. Expectations Project management of capital and expense projects from concept to project closure Designs and manages install of modifications to existing equipment with input from production, maintenance, safety, R&D, and quality groups Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical designs Specification and install management of new equipment for capital and expense projects Project material quotation, requisition, tracking, and staging Project forecasting, budgeting, invoice management, and controlling costs within project budget Supervise and support installation contractors for project work.
Supervise and support start-up and internal checkout installation for project work. Maintain plant layout master file in Auto CAD Ability to travel, on occasion, domestically and internationally. Evaluates performance of plant systems and makes recommendations for improvements and cost savings. Knowledge and appreciation of safe work practices and environments; Maintains a high level of safety among all employees throughout the project process Uses technical knowledge and awareness of details to recognize when technical problems are developing in the various disciplines and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Candidate Requirements Education BS in Engineering Required. Mechanical or Electrical preferred. Professional Experience 4+ years of experience in manufacturing facilities or industrial environments with a focus on mechanical projects, maintenance engineering, and design of machines required.
4+ years of experience with capital and expense project management required. Experience with plastic extrusion equipment, web handling equipment, process instrumentation, and utilities that support the process equipment. Well-developed communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization. Strong emphasis on execution of multiple projects Demonstrated ability to work with multiple other disciplines and plant departments Woking Conditions This position is in a manufacturing plant setting that would require working in a production environment around chemicals.
Work is would be 80% desk-based, but will require standing and walking for 20% of the time. You may be required to lift up to 35 pounds and/or push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
