Minimum Education and Work Experience Completion of an accredited registered nursing program. Develops an individualized plan of care based on nursing backssment and surgical procedure and revises the plan to meet the changing needs of the patient. Assures the needs of patients and families are recognized and addressed through coordination with other team members within the health care system and community. Contacts outpatients by telephone on their first postoperative day to backss the patient's status and assist patient to obtain further medical attention or instructions should the condition warrant. Demonstrate ability to adequately backss and reassess pain.
Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Documents and communicates all necessary information to the staff. Identifies physical symptoms, changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner. Interprets the physician's postoperative instructions and nursing rationale for postoperative care to the patient and family. Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate actions and documents. Observes, monitors and records procedures and information regarding the patients total care in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit from admission to discharge.
Reports changes and abnormalities in patient's condition to the anesthesiologist and the surgeon. Other duties as assigned.
