The Outpatient Clinician is part of an interdisciplinary team and provides services in a manner that is person-centered, strength-based, and trauma-informed. This role serves as primary counselor for nonresidential clients and uses OASAS-approved, validated screening instruments for co-occurring mental health conditions and behavioral health risks including suicide risk and referral
for associated mental health conditions. Successful candidates will demonstrate advanced communication and organizational skills as well as excellent reasoning and interpersonal skills.
JOB DUTIES Adhere to all NYS-OASAS and agency requirements and regulations concerning client care and chart compliance; Prepare and maintain records and case files for each client, including documentation such as clients' personal and eligibility information (ie completion of LOCADTR 3.0 backssment), services provided, narratives of client contacts, or other relevant correspondence; Monitor, evaluate, and record clients' progress with respect to treatment and recovery goals; Maintain contact with referral
sources, as needed; Demonstrate understanding of the Chemical Dependency Clinician role and skills in the competencies of the Addictions Counselor as defined by the twelve (12) core functions and global criteria; Draw on social work experience and collaborate with treatment teams to develop, implement, monitor, and review patient-centered individualized treatment/recovery plans, including individual, group, and family counseling; Counsel clients in individual or group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, deal with substance abuse, recovery from illness, and adjust to life or make changes (often involves overlap with mental or physical illness, poverty, unemployment, or physical abuse); Counsel or aid family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting their loved one; Interview clients, review records, conduct backssments, or confer with other professionals to evaluate their mental or physical condition(s); Assist with general oversight of milieu staff; Develop client-directed Relapse Prevention and/or Harm Reduction Plans that fit clients' aptitudes, education levels, physical abilities, and career goals; Participate with staff and, as necessary, other services and agencies to assure the development, management and implementation of comprehensive services for each client, reflecting both substance use issues and other habilitation or rehabilitation needs; Other duties as directed and assigned, subject to OASAS Scope of Practice.
