Collaborate with case planner in preparation and submission of all needed court reports. will supervise the internal medicine residents on medicine/psychiatry rotation. The Hospitalist provides history and physical examination within the first 24 hours, and coordinates the diagnostic backssment. The hospitalist will take care of abnormalities of the EKG and other medical issues.
The Hospitalist participates in the development of the comprehensive treatment plan with other members of the clinical team and is a signatory. The Hospitalist and the Psychiatrist collaborate together in the provision of care together to insure that psychiatric, substance abuse and medical issues are addressed in the provision of safe plans of care. The Hospitalist adheres to the Bylaws, Rules and
Regulation of the Medical Staff and the standards of the professional and regulatory agencies. The Hospitalist documents the course of treatment in the medical record in accord with the departmental standards and the standards of the professional and regulatory agencies.
Progress notes are written weekly on patient without concomitant medical problems and for those with such problems notes will be written more frequently. The Hospitalist will draw blood on those patients where the phlebotomist can't draw the blood. The Hospitalist will follow up on abnormal lab reports and provide appropriate care. Complete the incident report documentation. Call for x-ray reports if there is a delay.
Review of the x-rays may be required if the radiologist interpretation is delayed.
Participate in the development of the plan for aftercare services insuring that needed follow up medical care is organized. Hospitalist backss patients at discharge and medically clear them, prescribe medications and arrange follow-ups. Identify acute medical/surgical problems and request necessary consultation and provide the transfer to medical/surgical service. Consults may be requested for Gyn, HIV, Dental, Podiatry, Endocrine, Physical Therapy, Neurology or Medicien. Responds to urgent calls from psychiatry or detox in the absence of the hospitalist/internist on that particular unit.
Review the hospitalist's communication book and acknowledge the problems noted. Cover medical floors on weekends as assigned. Take rounds with house-staff, participate in conferences, morning report, Directors' Rounds and any other teaching activities assigned by the Chairman. Participate in the departmental activities such as organizing conferences, symposia, interviewing candidates for PGY 1-3 positions, writing and reviewing manuscripts for publications. Attend required departmental meetings. Demonstrate continuing medical education according to the standars fo the profession. Performs other duties as required.
Education: + Board Certified in Internal Medicine. License, and Certification Requirements: + Licensed in the State of New York to practice Medicine. Experience: + Experienced, and knowledgeable in chemical dependency, HIV related problems, and common psychiatric disorders.
