Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). This position reports directly to the Medical Director of the CVICU and indirectly to the Director of Advanced Practice. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: Works collaboratively with the Director of Advanced Practice, Department of Anesthesia Leadership, Physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers to as advocacy and implementation of advanced practice models of care in the Department of Anesthesia.

Supervise the care delivered by PAs/ ARNPs/ NNPs and/or other members of the health care team. Perform/ order medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.

Consult, collaborate, and coordinate care with other health care providers. Initiate and backss the effectiveness of therapy for critical illness. Works with leadership, physicians, unit managers and staff to educate, promote, utilize and optimize the APP, at the highest level of practice, in a team model of care.

Assures and monitors adherence of Department of Anesthesia APPs to regulatory processes and practice evaluation including: credentialing and privileging, internal standards, clinical protocols, compliance training and external professional standards. Accurately and appropriately complete documentation of patient care in EMR and other records for compliance, billing and

other regulatory standards. Lead and participate in quality, safety and process improvement initiatives.

Participates collaboratively as a part of the Department of Anesthesia leadership team in addressing significant issues and barriers that affect clinical practice and safety, quality, and professionalism for APPs. Promotes growth of APP staff in areas of leadership, clinical excellence, patient centered care, education, research and organization involvement to meet the identified specific goals and needs of the employee and organization. Assist in the education of residents and medical students rotating through the CVICU. Provide health education to patients and families; educate PAs/ ARNPs/ NNPs and/or other members of the health care team.

Responsible for coordination, implementation, and assurance of Department of Anesthesia and CVICU specific orientation, competency backssment and mentoring for new NP/PA employees. This will occur in partnership with collaborating/supervising physician within the Department/Division. Manages human resource issues in a responsible, respectful, confidential and fiscally responsible manner including recruitment, on-boarding, orientation, direction, supervision, performance evaluation, annual merit and disciplinary action.

Provide feedback and coaching to other team members to assure quality of specialized care. Other duties as assigned. Education/License Requirements: Physician Assistant (PA): Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA. Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP): A master's degree or Doctorate degree in nursing is required. ARNP - Board certified and registered as an ARNP in state of Iowa. ARNP - Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.

Required Qualifications: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Five years of relevant experience is required. Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff and students is required. Desired Qualifications: Experience in critical care with an emphasis on surgical patients/diseases is desired. Experience providing overall medical care and provide medical management for patients in an inpatient setting is desirable. Experience exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided is desirable.

Experience managing length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care is desirable. Knowledge of UIHC policy and procedures is desirable.
