Work closely with internal groups within Capital Delivery Engineering Department, as well as other departments including Real Estate, Transportation, Environmental Health & Safety. Acquire, or continue to develop, and effectively apply a working knowledge of Amtrak business systems, standard procedures, Engineering Practices, existing agreements with external (third-party) entities, and industry standards and best practices for the technical review of design packages and/or submitted project documents.
Work closely with the Design/Operations team to help estimate durations and labor resources necessary for all phases of the design review process for each designated project and monitor forecasted review schedules for accuracy. Coordinate with the team responsible for facilitating third-party project agreements and permits to help ensure design review completion and project schedules coincide. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience working with outside/third-party projects.

Design performs track and civil engineering design of railroad track engineering design projects. They design high-speed, passenger railroad track for capital, maintenance and special projects.
They provide leadership and mentoring to the less experienced track engineers. They coordinate track design projects with their Engineering counterparts in Electric Traction, Signals and Communications and Structures. They are a technical resource for the Division Engineers and Engineering Production (Undercutter, Tie Laying Machine, High-Speed Surfacing, Switch Exchange System). They represent Amtrak Engineering at meetings with federal, state and local governments and commuter rail agencies.
They review engineering designs by consulting engineers for Amtrak projects and for third-party construction on, or adjacent to Amtrak right-of-way.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Capable of prioritizing work, juggling multiple projects, working independently and delivering designs on time Provides leadership and mentoring to the track design team in the review and development of track designs for track renewal and new track construction. Enforces quality control reviews and procedures to ensure that track designs meet appropriate standards and is conducive to the safe and reliable operation of all train service over Amtrak owned and operated rail lines.
