1/5/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Bargaining Unit SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING (SEIU) Job Description This position has primary responsibility of performing a full range of molecular microbiological assignments in the microbiology laboratory.

This position is also responsible for the validation, maintenance and quality control of instruments and reagents, including DNA-specific probes and primers, used in molecular testing.

This position also performs organism identification, antimicrobial resistance testing, Legionella isolation, and confirmatory testing of select agents. Other responsibilities include training of personnel, troubleshooting assays and equipment, and other technical assistance

as required. This position assists in the development of new procedures, as necessary, and writes them into the format required for CAP accreditation. Rotational participation for the Bio Terrorism on Call Team is a requirement of this position.

Required Education and Experience Education Required: Possession of a bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field. Preferred: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics, or Clinical Laboratory Science.

Experience Microbiologist 9 No specific type or amount is required. Microbiologist 10 One year of professional experience in carrying out microbiology activities to diagnose human disease, determine food purity, or produce and test biological products equivalent to a Microbiologist 9. Microbiologist P11 Two years of professional experience in carrying out microbiology activities to diagnose human disease, determine food purity, or produce and test biological products equivalent to a Microbiologist, including one year equivalent to a Microbiologist 10.

Additional Requirements and Information Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 3350 N Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Lansing, MI 48906. Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including: A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions. A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

Bonus Programs: Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases.
