The instructor will develop and teach applied courses within the Master of Quantitative Economics program. health programs and/or policies that impact community and population health. While applicants may not have worked in each of the aforementioned domains, they should have a practical understanding of how one engages in equity-oriented public health research, evaluation, practice, and policy making.

Opportunities in teaching include leading core course instruction, as well as developing novel courses in health equity and public health intervention. Public health intervention seeks to develop and evaluate policies, programs and other types of interventions that may affect community/population health and health equity. Achieving health equity addresses historical and contemporary injustices;

overcomes economic, social, and other obstacles to health and health care; and eliminates preventable health disparities.

Applicants must have a demonstrated history (or the demonstrated potential) of developing and/or evaluating interventions focused on health equity and community/population health. Applicants would draw from these experiences to teach public health graduate and undergraduate courses with emphasis on community, policy, and/or programmatic-level intervention and evaluation. Priority content areas for this faculty position include but are not limited to health equity; community engaged interventions and research; and public health practice.

Leadership and/or experience working with underserved communities, including people with disabilities, women, or people from minoritized groups, is a plus. Our multidisciplinary faculty has a strong history of and ongoing public health programming in both domestic and global contexts, as well as multiple graduate education programs (MPH, MSPH, Ph D programs) and two new undergraduate majors in Public Health BA and Public Health BS. Additionally, the UCLA campus offers several resources to support teaching excellence, including the newly created UCLA Teaching & Learning Center. The mission of the Center is to support UCLA's community of educators in advancing instructional innovation and pedagogical research, engaging in research-based and equity-minded teaching practices, and celebrating inclusive excellence in teaching.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in public health, social and behavioral sciences, or related disciplines (Ph D, Sc D, MD, Dr PH or equivalent) and must demonstrate: (1) Excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching, with particular emphasis on program/policy development and evaluation methods; (2) Experience or clear potential in program/policy planning, implementation, and/or evaluation; (3) Ability to mentor students in applied practical experiences.

Salary Range: Faculty appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Classes can be online or in person. Classes held in-person meet once a week for 10 weeks, typically evenings from 7-10 pm PT. Online classes are offered in two formats: deadline-driven and asynchronous, or live remote instruction over web conferencing. Many in-person courses also take advantage of the online course format for distributing course materials, syllabi, assignments, and feedback.

Instructor Duties: Develop or update course syllabus to meet campus approval requirements, in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director and Program Manager. Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students and leverage additional resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum (i. e. make arrangements for guest speakers, etc. ) Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning Implement inclusive teaching strategies that engage learners from a variety of backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experience levels with the goal to achieve equity in learning outcomes.

Update materials periodically, and regularly monitor course evaluations in order to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum. Utilize Canvas as a course support platform in in-person courses, and as the delivery platform in online and hybrid courses. Post final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner, no later than 2 weeks after course end date. Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner. Communicate with Program Director and Program Staff in a timely manner.

Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner including: completing all new hire paperwork, submitting updated quarterly syllabus, posting bio and photo on the UCLA Extension website, accepting quarterly contract, submitting required textbook orders, and communicating classroom needs to the appropriate people. Participate in required orientations and instructor training programs. Assisting in occasional program activities such as competition/scholarship judging, guest lecturing, community events, script consultations (for additional compensation), etc.

Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies in the classroom inclusive of both domestic and international student populations. Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in the field of Creative Writing Respond to student inquiries about final grades and consult with Program Director as needed. Maintain a record of final grades for up to 13 months following the last class session.
