Summary As an Oldcastle Maintenance and Repair Mechanic, you will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair and installation of manufacturing equipment. Maintenance and Repair Mechanics also provide maintenance support for the various facilities and structures on company property.

The successful candidate must be able to work safely in a fast-paced, covered and uncovered manufacturing facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair equipment, electrical components and special purpose machines as assigned Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary Operate a variety of hand and power tools to repair, grease, weld, cut, change parts and complete tasks as assigned Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.

Perform routine preventive

maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly Dismantle equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools Ability to think independently while successfully functioning in a team environment, with a proven track record of contributing toward team goals Requirements At least 3 years of maintenance/electrician experience with at least two years working in a manufacturing environment.

Classification: Non-Exempt student hourly position • Paving installation – work with a paving crew to learn an overview of the process to install asphalt. During the time with a paving crew the intern will learn about the safety hazards and how to conduct risk backssments to ensure a safe working environment. The intern will also learn about the different types of paving projects, the process of project layout and preparation, the importance of customer service, the process of estimating a project, and the different roles

and responsibilities of the members of the paving crew. • Construction – work with a construction crew to learn how a project is set up and executed.

During this phase the intern will learn about the requirements necessary to ensure a safe operation, learn the process of coordinating all the subcontractors, employees, and equipment on a project, and will learn the different roles and responsibilities of the members of the crew. The intern will also spend some time with the Contract Administrator to understand the billing/payment process and with an Estimator to understand how the jobs are bid. During all phases the intern may assist with duties such as; manual labor, use of hand tools, directing and guiding traffic through construction sites, and possibly operating equipment.

Work with connecting railroads to assure efficient interchange of cars and locomotives. Perform air tests, inspect and repair locomotives or components for structural defects and wear according to FRA and manufacturing guidelines. Rules compliance with all rules, regulations and programs including drug and alcohol. Be proficient and knowledgeable on the interchange rules as they pertain to locomotives. Possess working knowledge of the proper use of various wear limit gauges and testing

equipment. Must possess the ability to complete written forms and reports as well as necessary Federal Railroad Administration reports pertaining to machinist position responsibilities.

Must possess the ability to become a qualified locomotive inspector according to the FRA regulations. Familiar with state and federal regulations as it relates to the railroad industry. Must be able to perform emergency repairs and re-railing of railroad rolling stock. Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must have a working knowledge of and be familiar with various types of tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, welders, torches, hammers, jacks, and various types of other mechanical, pneumatic, and hand tools pertaining to the construction and maintenance of locomotives. Develop the skills of subordinate employee(s) to assure highly qualified successors are in place. Test, inspect and repair locomotives or components for electrical malfunctions or defects according to FRA and manufacturing guidelines. Must possess the ability to complete written forms and reports as well as necessary Federal Railroad Administration reports pertaining to electrician position responsibilities.

Must be able to perform emergency repairs and have a basic understanding of electrical theory, AC and DC motors, control circuits, and electrical schematics. Must have a basic mechanical aptitude to perform the required electrical and mechanical maintenance in order to troubleshoot electrical faults such as grounded circuits, open interlocks, broken wires, etc. Other responsibilities as assigned. Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent.

On the job training provided. Reading & Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and federal and state regulations. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of this organization. Ability to write and update rules and manuals to assure continuous compliance with all federal regulations. Certificates and Licenses Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable by company insurance provider to drive and operate company vehicles and equipment as necessary. Must have the ability to become a qualified Service Engineer according to Federal Railroad Administration regulations and will be required to perform electrical duties as required.
