Posting Identification Number Position Overview The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire

a Stationary Engineer Chief for the Mabley Developmental Center located in Dwight, Illinois to perform responsible administrative work in planning, organizing, evaluating, managing, and directing all phases of physical operation and maintenance.

Develops, oversees, and performs preventative maintenance program for all equipment that supports the building’s operating functions. Recommends policies and procedures for efficient operation and maintenance of facility. Monitors all maintenance and repair projects and contracts for electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other physical equipment. Operates equipment and tools, lifting, pushing and/or pulling equipment, machinery and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

Travels in performance of job duties. Job Responsibilities Serves as the Chief Engineer for engineering staff at the Mabley Developmental Center. Performs responsible administrative work in planning, organizing, evaluating, managing, and directing all phases of physical operation and maintenance for the Mabley Developmental Center. Prepares request for expenditures forms for equipment and repair/installation needs for the Mabley Developmental Center.

Makes rounds of the boiler and mechanical rooms. Serves as designated lead worker. Serves as compliance coordinator. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires seven years of experience in the operation of a commercial or institutional power plant or as a skilled craftsman in the mechanical or building trades.

Requires possession of a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U. S. E. P. A. Section 608 rules or the ability to obtain such certificate. The possession of a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U. S. E. P. A. Section 608 encompasses positions which perform refrigeration/air-conditioning work that has the possibility of release of chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of professional experience in the methods used in the operation of high-pressure coal, gas or oil-fired boilers and their appurtenances. Five (5) years of professional experience with regards to water and sewage treatment.

Five (5) years of professional experience working with public health regulations and building codes. Five (5) years of professional experience diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, heating and air condition systems and the ability to recognize potentially dangerous situations and to make appropriate emergency responses. Five (5) years of professional experience directing the work of employees engaged in the maintenance of mechanical and building systems. Five (5) years of professional experience preparing and maintaining records.

Five (5) years of experience following and expressing complex ideas clearly both orally and in written form. Conditions of Employment Requires a valid appropriate driver’s license. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties. Requires the ability to serve on an on-call basis before and after business hours, weekends, and holidays and to utilize agency supplied materials/equipment (e. g. pager, cellphone, etc. ) for emergencies. Requires the ability to work overhead, climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, bending, and walking. Requires the ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
