Job Overview The College of Engineering and Applied Science's Department of Engineering and Computing Education is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join Dr. David Reeping's research group. The current research
focus of the group cuts across several strands: curricular analytics, threshold concepts in cyber-physical systems, eye-tracking usability studies with web-based information for transfer students, and large language models (i.
e. generative AI) in engineering classrooms. We seek a candidate who is eager to deepen their expertise in engineering education research by contributing to funded projects, developing new manuscripts and proposals centered on mutual research interests, and building mentoring skills by assisting with supervising graduate students. This position requires excellent writing and verbal communication with demonstrated success in publishing peer-reviewed journal articles.
The candidate must have a well-developed understanding of the literature in at least one of the following broad areas: engineering education, higher education, educational research methods.
The position also requires a working knowledge of mixed methods research, with a particular emphasis on quantitative research skills. Aptitude with high-level programming languages is desirable (e. g. Python or R). The postdoctoral fellow will be working across a variety of projects, and their primary responsibilities project-wise will be matched to their expertise. This position is for one year with the possibility of a year extension. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to be in person at the University of Cincinnati by the agreed-upon start date.
Essential Functions Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Assisting with grant management. Preparing proposals for internal and external funding. Performing data collection and analysis. Preparing manuscripts for conferences and journals. If warranted, the postdoctoral fellow may be asked to attend professional conferences and meetings. Required Education Ph. D. or Ed. D. required in Engineering Education, Educational Research, or closely related field. Additional Qualifications Considered Undergraduate/graduate degree in an Engineering or Science discipline (e.
g. Physics). Experience mentoring undergraduate research assistants. Experience with grant writing for either internal or external funding. Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including techniques unique to mixed methods. Knowledge of Python, R, MATLAB, or Net Logo (or other similar scripting or computational languages). Expertise in at least one of the following methods/areas: Delphi method, eye-tracking, think-aloud interviews, data mining, machine learning, time series methods. Expertise in at least one of the following topical areas in engineering education: transfer student experiences, threshold concepts, Quant Crit, person-centered approaches/analyses.
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the literature in engineering education, higher education, or educational research methods. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work and collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and staff from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
