YOUR ADVENTURE AS A CARPENTER In this seasonal role, you are an essential member of our field team. This remote location presents unique
challenges: extreme temperatures, close quarters, and limited transportation.
But you've never been one to run from a challenge. Your years of carpentry experience plus your problem-solving abilities make you the perfect person to build and maintain structures at our field camp. A highly organized person, you plan out projects and create material lists. You also understand how to read drawings and build to specifications. From rough framing to finish carpentry, you know how to handle any task that comes your way. Throughout each project, you keep a careful log of the materials used so our inventory record is always up-to-date. Your construction talents aren't limited to woodworking.
You also assemble structural steel buildings, hang drywall, and install tile. As a flexible team player, you also assist with snow removal and erect and dismantle tents and portable buildings. Thanks to you, our facilities are weather-tight and comfortable in this beautiful, frozen land! WHAT WE'RE SEARCHING FOR IN A CARPENTER We're looking for an adaptable, positive person with the following qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent 4+ years of extensive carpentry experience, including rough framing and finish carpentry Ability to read plans and build to specifications Experience installing doors and windows Ability to design and build stairs and roofs Ability to work in extreme temperatures Willingness to drive a snowmobile and other polar vehicles Valid driver's license Experience with commercial or industrial facility construction is preferred but not required.
Metal stud framing, drywall hanging, and drywall finishing experience would be an asset. Experience with remote, cold environments would be beneficial. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER As a seasonal Journeyman Plumber, you ensure that our remote research
station remains safe and comfortable for the people living and working here.
You maintain and repair existing indoor and outdoor plumbing systems and infrastructure as well as install a variety of fixtures and equipment. Meticulously, you install and repair valves and other control devices for appliances such as dishwashers, sinks, pumps, and toilets. You also install and maintain insulated piping for glycol and sewer transport. As needed, you deftly use various power and hand tools to get the job done. You maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all your work, making note of hours worked, materials used, and tasks performed. Working in Alaska, you can expect weather conditions to be a little extreme sometimes.
However, you're up for the task and adapt your methods accordingly. This job can be challenging at times, but it doesn't beat the satisfaction you feel from helping others and successfully overcoming obstacles. You take great pride in performing these essential duties and supporting " America's Arctic University" QUALIFICATIONS FOR A JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER Current Journeyman or Master Plumber license 4+ years of diversified plumbing experience Experience working with a variety of pipe materials and fittings such as copper, PEX, galvanized steel, black iron, glass-fiber reinforced epoxy (GRE), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) Knowledge about the Uniform Plumbing Code Valid driver's license and ability to drive snowmobiles or other polar vehicles High school diploma or equivalent Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester or Repairer certification would be preferred.
Experience with hydronic piping systems would be a plus. Experience working in commercial or industrial facilities, as well as remote, cold, or polar environments, would be a bonus. Can you think on your feet and solve problems as they arise? Do you have strong planning and time management skills?
