Role Overview : The Airfield Firefighter Station Captain works under general direction of the Assistant Chief of Operations.

The purpose of the fire fighter occupation is to respond to airport/ aircraft rescue & fire fighting emergencies to suppress all types of fires and provide emergency services during other related emergency incidents. At this career level, incumbents respond to airport/aircraft rescue emergencies, suppress fires, perform rescue operations & operate & maintain fire station vehicles & equipment. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: Oversee and give training assignments to ensure efficient operations are conducted for firefighting department.

Coordinate established training plans and monitors training of all fire personnel to ensure compliance with department requirements. Assist and direct fire suppression and rescue teams at scene of emergencies and provides technical oversight of operations concerning live fire training and operation of equipment. Coordinate fire department health and safety programs, technical orders library, breathing air program and building inspection program to ensure compliance with established fire department management plans, standard operating procedures, and the National Fire Protection Association standards.

Develop local base training and supplementary training for mandated AFCEC items, re-occurring trainings and new training on equipment. What You'll Need for Success: You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE). Complete a physical performance requirements backssment prior to employment, initial training, and conduct an annual re backssment. Security Clearance: Firefighters must obtain and maintain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC), Common Access Card (CAC) and a Restricted Area Access (Line Badge). Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Must have successful completion of : International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certification in airport Firefighter; must possess International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, accreditation certification of completion of National Fire Protection Association Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Driver Operator (e.

g. assigned vehicles, ARFF, Pumper, & MWS), Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Fire Officer III, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Operations, and Incident Command levels, Air Force Incident Management System, Fire Service Instructor I, Fire Service Instructor II, Fire Service Instructor III, Fire Inspector I, and Fire Inspector II. The ability to maintain department data bases and software. Hold and maintain a valid state driver’s license. Obtain and maintain a military driver’s license identifying assigned fire fighting vehicles.

The ability to exercise caution to avoid loss of life, unnecessary property damage and injury to self and other personnel. The ability to wear protective clothing and safety equipment in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1500 standards. The Airfield Firefighter Trainer for Camp Atterbury and MUTC must have served prior to employment, or serve at the time of employment, a six (6) year tour in either an active duty or reserve component of the United States Armed Forces as a condition of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
