the world’s leading supplier of solid rocket motors, a leading provider of launch vehicles, satellites and other space systems, and the nation’s largest manufacturer of ammunition. Sr. Mechanical Engineer ATK’s Rocket Center location has an immediate need for an experienced Product Engineer.
As a Product Engineer, the incumbent will generate conceptual rocket motor designs to meet performance specifications and support a product development team to transition a motor design concept into a proven and flight ready system. This is an exciting and visible position which requires strong interpersonal skills and technical background. Responsibilities • Perform preliminary and detailed design
of propulsion systems, subsystems, and components, including propellant grain sizing, pressure vessel mechanical design, insulator sizing using thermal analysis, as well as nozzle and igniter design.
• Interface with structural analysis, internal rocket motor ballistic analysis, quality, tooling and drafting departments in support of project design and development activities • Serve as liaison between Program Office and Operations for assigned programs • Select materials and processes for fabrication of product • Prepare procedures and work instructions for product fabrication • Oversee all aspects of testing efforts on assigned project, including planning, component fabrication, test
execution, data reduction, and final reporting • Troubleshoot technical and production issues while meeting cost & schedule goals • Participate in Independent Research and Development (IRAD) activities • Interface with customer regarding product technical status and potential product improvements • Participate in business development activities including cost estimating, preliminary design concepts, proposal writing, etc.
Requirements • BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, or equivalent engineering • 5 or more years directly related experience. • Working knowledge of solid and fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, thermodynamics and mechanical design • Ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team • Good oral and written communication skills • Solid interpersonal skills • Must possess design skills and logical problem solving ability • Hands-on experience in an industrial setting desired • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Strongly Desired • Working knowledge of rocket propulsion systems • Mechanical design experience • Demonstrated CAD skills • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, SPC • Experience with 3-D modeling and computational fluid dynamics tools If you are a dynamic, successful, driven professional, Orbital ATK is the company that will further your experience and career growth.

Responsible to work closely with supply chain to build the production schedule. Coordination with Shift Leads, Engineers, and Maintenance Coordinator for maintenance and technical testing and needs.
Responsible for oversight of Specialty Compounding Packaging Area. Provide guidance to contract employees. Lead improvement and Capital projects throughout the area. Work with maintenance, technical, and operations as needed to trouble shoot area issues or coordinate incident investigations and problem-solving sessions (safety, quality, reliability, etc. ). Review and approve operating directions, blanking lists, lock out sheets, etc. Attend daily/weekly maintenance planning meetings to help
prioritize work needs for operations. Accountability: Held accountable to Safety, Health, Environmental metrics: LWC, TRI, OTJ, Tier I, II, III Incidents, and any process incidents.
This role is accountable for all Operations metrics including SHE, Yield, Uptime, Cost, and Quality. Accountability is measured by meeting the PO for these metrics set by the business. Qualifications: Engineering degree preferred At least 3 years experience in manufacturing operations Strong computer skills (Microsoft Applications, SAP/SAPPM) Ability to work well with others using influence Able to organize, plan, and prioritize multiple tasks and changing priorities.
