Responsibilities Mercy Hospice is a comprehensive program offered by Dignity Health for individuals and families facing serious and life-threatening illness with a prognosis of six months or less. Mercy Hospice professionals and volunteers offer physical emotional and spiritual comfort to patients and families. The primary focus of Mercy Hospice is to enable families to care for their loved

ones at home. Specialized support and care are carried out under the direction of a physician and include: Regular nursing visits to assist in pain and symptom management Emotional support education and community resources provided by a social worker to assist the patient and family Spiritual support provided by a hospice chaplain Personal services provided by certified home health/hospice aides Volunteer services for companionship respite and caregiver support Continuing support to families for a period of 13 months through our bereavement (grief) program The Mercy Hospice team consists of physicians nurses social workers counselors (including dietary) chaplains home health aides and volunteers.

The hospice team meets regularly to discuss current cases and coordinate care to ensure quality and continuity for the patient.

The medical director meets with the team to review care plans giving direction and advice as necessary. Additional services are provided such as shop physical therapy and occupational therapy when needed. Hospice provides 24 hour-a-day support for patients and their families. Mercy Hospice is a Medicare-certified Joint Commission accredited program. We are also a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) California Hospice and Palliative Care Association (CHAPCA) California Association for Health Services at Home (CAHSAH) and the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC).

We are a partner in the We Honor Veterans (WHV) program. Mercy Hospice also contracts with many major private insurance companies that provide a hospice benefit. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the skill and experience which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class. This is an experienced-level position specific to operating a street sweeper but can include the full range of duties of the Maintenance Technician II classification when assigned.

May provide technical and functional oversight over less experienced maintenance personnel. The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties related to area of assignment, including not limited to, landscaping, utility locations, streetlighting, traffic signals, streets, traffic control devices, drainage, and pump station facilities.

As qualified and assigned, operates, and maintains a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment including, but not limited to, power operated man-lifts, bucket trucks, scissor trucks, often at heights approaching 35 feet off the ground and observes safe driving and operating practices. Installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signs and markings in roadways and public right-of-way in conformance with established standards and procedures, including procedures involving mixing and cleanup of paints and thermoplastic. Repairs and maintains roadway and trail structures using a variety of hand tools and mechanized equipment including, but not limited to, shovels, rakes, jack hammers, brooms, tampers, skid steers, dump trucks, vibratory rollers, etc. Work includes breaking, removing, replacing, and cleanup of asphalt and concrete surfaces, patching, crack sealing, and other asphalt and concrete repairs. Inspects, operates, maintains, and repairs storm collection systems, mains, laterals, catch basins, manholes, pump stations and related structures.

Adjusts and operates equipment used in the inspection and cleaning of storm collection systems. Inspects, cleans, paints, rebuilds, and maintains traffic signals and streetlighting equipment and infrastructure. Mow, edge, and maintain natural areas, grass, and turf areas using mowers and other specialty turf care equipment. Trim, plant, transplant, irrigate, cultivate, and maintain City landscaping, open spaces, and trees. Perform routine maintenance and repair of related facilities and amenities. Inspect, clean, and restock restrooms. Cleans and maintains assigned tools, equipment, vehicles, and shop areas.

Maintains and organizes inventory for shop materials and equipment. Responds to after-hours call outs and emergencies such as vehicle accidents, floods, fallen trees and other hazards when necessary or as required. May contact residents through various forms of communication methods to inform them of work to be performed. Performs related duties as assigned. Respond tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately to inquiries from the public, City staff, or other agencies on sensitive issues in area of responsibility.

Exercise judgment and initiative without close supervision. Understand and follow oral, written and computerized instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Respond to emergency situations and call-outs in off hours within two hours, as required. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities. Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

Experience: Maintenance Technician I: One (1) year of work experience as a laborer in construction or maintenance work. Work experience and/or training in work zone safety are desirable. License or Certificate: Possession and maintenance of a valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
