others. Description of Duties: This is a full-time OPS position working within the Division of Habitat and Species (HSC) Public Access Services Office.
It can be based anywhere in Florida and has a statewide scope. Actual work hours are flexible and variable as required. Under the guidance of the Construction Planning & Design Manager, the successful candidate will develop project scopes and budgets, negotiate fees, track and approve project deliverables, assist in the development of the design program, provide technical guidance to construction staff, coordinate projects in order to forward the State’s interests through the planning, design and construction phases of work.
Project types include, but are not limited to, public access facilities (entry areas, boardwalks, fishing piers, viewing structures, kiosks, etc. ), buildings (offices, pole barns, pavilions, shop areas, staff residences, etc. ), ADA retrofits and hydrology improvements. These projects are generally located in remote areas and require context sensitive solutions. Responsibilities Performing technical engineering tasks of gradually increasing complexity. Preparing or reviewing design, permits and bid packages, including technical specifications, and ensuring compliance with purchasing and permitting requirements of multiple complex projects.
Managing task assignments with professional consultants who provide services not performed in house such as surveying, and geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, civil and environmental engineering. Conducting on-site inspections to ensure compliance with the permits and plans/specifications. Assisting other sections within HSC and other Divisions within FWC with engineering projects as assigned. Minimum requirements Valid driver’s license. Ability to travel an average of 25% of the time on a yearly basis.
Ability to work in remote areas in sometimes harsh physical conditions. Excellent organizational skills. Willingness to follow administrative and record keeping requirements. Competency using spreadsheets, word processor and pdf editing programs. Desired items Florida Engineer Intern Certification. One to three years of experience with engineering projects.
