Assists with studies of coastal geologic and littoral sediment transport processes in collaboration with the ORCP staff and contractors and prepares reports with recommendations for long-term regional beach or inlet management strategies. Conducts on-site inspections to evaluate beach-dune conditions, beach sediment characteristics and permit compliance of beach and inlet management projects. Assist in the processing of applications submitted for permits pursuant to Chapter 161, F. S. for construction in the coastal area of the state. The position provides engineering assistance to and coordinates with the other sections and program areas of the Division in pursuit of the overall mission to preserve, restore and protect the beaches and coastal systems of Florida.
Plans and conducts engineering reviews of consultations and applications for construction control line permits. Reviews and analyzes site development, landscaping, and grading plans and specifications for property development, and makes recommendations in accordance with the accepted environmental protection principles and with the agency's rules, regulations, and policy. Ensures appropriate follow-up on permit compliance issues. Assists the agency and local governments in the implementation of contingency plans for handling shoreline emergencies and assists local government officials in implementing emergency measures for shoreline protection.
Providing technical assistance to other sections of the Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection and the Department on coastal and environmental issues. The incumbent of this position has been identified as emergency Mission Essential Personnel in accordance with Directive 971 and, in that capacity, may be required, on short notice, to perform duties and travel in support of emergency efforts.
All leave approved is subject to recall in the occurrence of a major event. Leave should be coordinated with backup/cross-trained staff and approved by management to ensure that DEP essential functions can be performed, if required. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Develop, review, and implement Statewide standards, criteria, procedures, guidelines and engineering tools and computer aided design programs relating to roadway design and construction. Must be able to exercise independent judgment in the formulation and review of these standards, criteria, procedures, guidelines, engineering tools and computer aided design programs which will have a direct impact on construction plans prepared on a Statewide basis. Provide technical advice and assistance to districts and their consultants on issues related to the use of design standards and criteria including background, design requirements and construction requirements. This includes course development and presentation of appropriate training on a statewide basis, technical support for manuals and support for Department Quality Assurance activities.
Maintain a close, cooperative working relationship between other Department offices, the Federal Highway Administration, the transportation industry and traffic engineering community on all matters relating to roadway and traffic design. Participate in Department cross-functional and coordinating task team activities. Advise superiors on matters relating to roadway and traffic design and in their absence acts on matters as appropriate.
